WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 7/28/08

LANDRY AND YOUNG DOUBLE DOWN AT WISCASSET RACEWAY

Oakland's Mike Landry and Windsor's Maurice Young took full
advantage of the double weekend of action at Wiscasset Raceway and
both drivers came away with a pair of wins each to establish
themselves as the driver to beat in their respective divisions. The
victories highlighted a busy weekend of action at Maine's "Center of
Speed" with a special double point anniversary show Saturday night and
a makeup program Sunday afternoon. For Landry, Sunday's win in the 75
lap main event qualifier for the Unicel Super Streets guaranteed him a
starting spot in the $10,000 to win Super Street / Sportsman Nationals
at Wiscasset in early October. He took the lead on lap 68 following
the 7th caution of the race and held of Josh St Clair and RJ Austin
for the win and the $750 payoff. It was his second win of the weekend
and division high 4th of the season. Landry, the division's only
repeat winner, was most happy to secure his spot in the big race. "I
ain't concerned about the 750 bucks" he told Travis Barrett of
Green-White-Checkers. "I want to make sure I'm there to win the ten
grand, or atleast have a chance to win the 10 grand." Following post
race inspection Austin was bumped up to the runnerup position and
"Cowboy" Dan Trask to 3rd. Trask hadn't raced at the track since May.
6-time track champion Maurice Young also nailed down a pair of
convincing wins in the Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets over the
weekend, picking up his track high 5th & 6th victories of the year.
Saturday night's show was a special program sponsored by Lester Morse
Auto Sales & Self Storage and Ames True Value Supply as the White
family celebrated their first anniversary at the helm of the track.
Thousand of dollars of prizes were given away including free gasoline
from Wiscasset Quick Stop, kids bicycles & scooters, gift certificates
and logowear. Other winners Saturday evening included veteran Jeff
Burgess of E. Madison taking the win in the 50 lap feature for the
Clark's Car Crushing Prostocks. It was the first win of the year for
the driver who finished as the division runnerup in 07'. He was joined
in victory lane by John Phippen and Scott King; however King's car
failed post race inspection, turning the 3rd place trophy over to
defending champ Scott Moore. Phippen would take the division point
lead with his 2nd place finish and Randy Turner experiencing late race
troubles to finish 12th. Jason Witts of Dixmont started on the outside
of the front row in the 30 lap feature for the Smith Construction Late
Model Sportsman and survived a handful of midrace cautions to pick up
his first Wiscasset victory. Peter Oakes of Boothbay moved up from 8th
to finish 2nd and defending champ Chris Thorne, who was involved in
one of the cautions, raced his way back up to a 3rd place finish. In
Mike Landry's 25 lap victory Saturday night in the Unicel Super
Streets, he was joined in victory lane by Brian Fortin and point
leader Allan Moeller. For Fortin, it was a personal best finish. While
the 20 lap win in Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets went to Maurice
Young, Bath's Ian Bresnahan would take home the runnerup trophy and
Wiscasset's Bobby Mesimer was 3rd. The 20 lap feature in the Aable
Auto Parts Mini Stocks was won by Mac Hannan Jr of Union with Ryan
Ripley of Thomaston and Shawn Kimball of Pittston taking 2nd and 3rd.
The official finish of the 15 lap feature in the White and Bradstreet
Mini Trucks didn't match what transpired on the track. Biddeford's
Chad Binnette rolled to his 3rd checkered flag in as many tries this
season, but his truck failed post race inspection, turning the victory
over to Chris Doucette. Jaime Foster also failed post race inspection,
bumping up Russ Anderson and Opie Allard into the 2nd and 3rd place
positions. In Sunday afternoon action Chuck Colby picked up his 2nd
win of the season in the 50 lap feature for the Clark's Car Crushing
Prostocks with Scott Moore and Jesse Smith joining him in victory
lane. Maurice Young's Sunday win in the 20 lap Keystone Automotive
Strictly Streets was unfortunatly overshadowed by an altercation
between driver Jeff Merrill and track officials following a penalty
against the driver late in the race. When the dust cleared and order
was restored the race was completed and Ed Pierpont and Bobby Mesimer
joined Maurice Young to claim the 2nd and 3rd place trophies. 13 year
old Ryan Ripley, grandson of 3-time Wiscasset champ Doug Ripley,
picked up his first win in the 20 lap feature for the Aable Autoparts
Mini Stocks. The win followed up his runnerup finish the night before.
Previous night podium finishers Mac Hannan and Shawn Kimball each
failed post race inspection and as a result, Natasha Dyer of Arrowsic
picked up a personal best 2nd place finish and Mike Dulaney of
Richmond a season best 3rd. There was also a another big shake up in
the official finish of the 15 lap White & Bradstreet Mini Trucks
Sunday afternoon. Three of the top four finishers faile post race
inspection including apparent winner Don Giggey, giving the win over
to Russ Anderson of Portsmouth, NH and the other trophies to James
Swan of Clinton and Josh Harjula of Boothbay.

Wiscasset Raceway returns to action Saturday August 2nd with
action in all six weekly racing series divisions and sponsored by
