1st at the track to announce that owners Del Merritt, and Alice Baker
had entered into an agreement with Wayne Elston, to bring Wayne into
the fold, as co-promoter of Maine's Family Fun Track, Speedway 95,
effective as of now, through the end of the season in 2010. Elston
brings with his, his 26 years of racecar driving experience, and 40
years of involvement with the sport.
"This should squash all rumors that we're closing," said co-owner Del
Merritt. "Cause we're definitely not closing. We'll stick around."
Merritt's plan with Elston coming on board, is that the track will be
able to court more sponsors, and might soon be able to raise the
winners purse in each of the divisions, to help offset the cost of
gas, and the sluggish economy. "We are hoping we can get both our
Saturday night and Wednesday night cars picked up," stated Merritt.
"If we have to make any major decisions... it will not be made until
July 12th, that gives us two Wednesdays, and Two Saturdays."
"I need help from the drivers, owners, and the people that sit in the
stands," Elston announced, soliciting comments, questions, and idea's
from everyone. " You can not put on a race without the fans, the
owners, and the people... Tell us what is wrong, and we'll try to
improve it... I am going to concentrate, on getting the excitement
back."
