Bill; Dixon drove around Scott McDaniels with nine laps remaining to
earn his first Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Mod win at Riverside
Speedway Saturday night.. McDaniels raced home second and Ron Henry
finished third. It was the first PASS Mod podium finish of 2008 for
all three drivers.
McDaniels looked like he might be in line for his first PASS win,
leading thirty-one laps after winning his heat race and starting on
the pole for the forty lap feature. With heat two winner Greg Ellis
along side, McDaniels, Ellis and Dixon raced nose to tail at the
half-way mark with Ron Henry fourth and Andy Shaw fifth. Four time
2008 PASS Mod winner Mark Lucas was charging up through the field but
a flat left rear sent him to the pits; he returned to the speedway one
lap down.
Ellis got shuffled back on the outside to fifth on a lap 23 restart,
and a spin by Sulo Burbank on lap 26 collected both Ellis and point
leader Tom Oliver. All three drivers retired for the night.
McDaniels kept the field at bay on the restart and Ron Henry raced
past Andy Shaw to claim third. Dixon was hot on McDaniels' heels,
looking for a way around for the lead. Dixon got his chance on lap 31
and the veteran racer went on to capture the victory.
The PASS Mods take a few weeks off before returning to the track at
Wiscasset on Sunday August 17th for the Toyota Tundra 250 weekend at
Wiscasset Raceway.
