Scarborough,Maine-Steve Carrier and Jason Gammon won Pro Series and
Sport Series races Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Gary
Babineau and David Turner were support division winners taking Wildcat
and Road Runner division wins respectively.
Keith McKinnon led the opening 3 laps of the Pro Series 40 lap main
event until Carrier took over. The only caution flag of the race
waved on lap 14 and after a quick realignment Carrier went back to the
front.
Chris Smith and T.J. Brackett were second and third but all eyes were
on the 5th place car of Bobby Babb who was coming to the front like a
man on a mission. With point leader Bub Bilodeau sitting in the pit
area with a broken race car Babb raced for the win as he trailed
Bilodeau by 19 points entering the evenings race card.
Babb moved to second place at lap 29 and chased down Carrier who was
10 lengths in front. Carrier had company on lap 34 as Babb tried
repeatedly to move around Carrier but ran out of race track each time.
Carrier stayed in front to the checkered flag with Babb second. T.J.
Brackett was third with Chris Smith and Dan McKeage fourth and fifth.
Jason Gammon was a first time Sport Series winner on Saturday night.
Andy Field led briefly until lap 4 when his car didn't take off on a
restart giving the lead over to Doug Wolfe. Wolfe appeared to be
headed to his first win but that changed on lap 32 following a restart
when his car was slow to come up to speed following a caution.
Gammon took over and led the final 3 laps for the win with Wolfe
second and Clyde Hennessey third. Fourth place went to David Vaughn
and fifth was Reggie Leeman.
Gary Babineau won his second Wildcat feature race of the season
leading from the 5th lap to the finish for the win. As of press time
the win was unofficial pending a post race technical inspection
ruling. Crossing the line behind Babineau in second place was Paul
Lund with Glenn Bradbury third. David Wildes and Cole Watson rounded
out the top 5 finishers.
David Palmer was awarded the Road Runner victory after apparent winner
Ed Pierce and second place finisher Marc Sylvain failed a post race
technical inspection. Finishing second was Casey Corkum with Dan
Bernier third. Shawn Brackett and Mark Hill were the top 5 finishers
after the adjusted finishing order.
