Boron, Poirier split Pro finals in Malone for Rock Maple Racing snocross series

MALONE, NY (Jan. 5, 2009) - Canadian veteran Danny Poirier and
former champion Matt Boron split the Pro finals on Sunday afternoon,
as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) completed Round 2 on the 2009 Central
series snocross schedule at the Franklin County Fairgrounds.
Poirier (Hulten Speed Sports/Polaris), of St. Theodore, QC,
steadily chased down and passed fellow Quebec native Dave Allard
(full-time Pro on the national circuit) to claim the Pro Open final.
Allard made a big move to catch Poirier late-race, but went off the
track slightly. Allard got right back on-track to finish second, while
Jason Boron was third.
Boron, of Leverett, MA, prevailed in Pro Stock after two
runner-up finishes in Round 1 at Black Mountain. Poirier got the
holeshot and led for several laps with Allard on his tail. As the
leaders worked lapped traffic, Poirier landed on Derek Graham, ending
his chances for victory. Boron, who had kept his nose clean the whole
race, led his older brother across the line (giving D&Z Racing/Ski-doo
a 1-2 finish), while talented independent John O'Malley, of Ajax, ONT,
claimed third. After sweeping both classes at Black Mountain, Poirier
is off to a terrific start in 2009.
Defending Pro Vet champion Joe Lemieux bounced back from a
tough season opener to win Sunday's final. Lemieux, of St. Johnsbury,
led Newport's Rene Desrochers and Manchester's Brent Herrmann to the
finish making it an all-Vermont podium in Pro Vet. Jennifer Pare rode
her Polaris to victory in the Pro Women's final, with former champion
Michelle Lemieux second and Malone native Janell Smith third. The Pro
classes offered plenty of side-by-side racing in Malone, keeping the
crowd on its feet much of the weekend.
In Semi-Pro action Sunday, CSRA regular David Joanis made his
presence known. Joanis, of Cochrane, ONT, won the Open final over RMR
mainstays Aaron Pfeifer and Brad Davis. Nick Kelley got the holeshot
in a race filled with mechanical failures, but flipped off his sled in
the closing stages.
Corin Todd carried some momentum forward from Black Mountain,
backing up his Open victory there by winning the Semi-Pro Stock final.
Shaun St. Onge dominated the early laps but faded to fourth at the
finish. Joanis was a strong second while Jake Melville claimed third.
Joey Stock earned the Stock 440 victory, with Clinton Ballou and
Andrew Bailey filling out the podium.
Stock (Southside Sales/Polaris), who competes primarily in the
Sport division, was on top of his game in Malone. The young athlete
from Otego, NY, won Saturday's Sport Super Stock final, then repeated
the performance on Sunday. Stock also claimed Sunday's Sport Stock 600
final, with Jake Dasilva and Joe Mosher second and third respectively.
Bailey found redemption with a victory in Sport 500 over Scott Edwards
and Michael Sickler.
In Junior division action Sunday, Leo Patenaude and Nick St.
Amand enjoyed a great deal of success. Patenaude, of Hartland, VT,
earned victories in 10-13 380 Fan and 10-13 600 Fan. St. Amand, of
Fairfield, ME, prevailed in the 14-15 Stock 500 and 16-17 Stock 500
classes. Hunter Patenaude was also celebrating on Sunday, as he
claimed Saturday's 300 Freestyle final over Lucas Livingston and
Hunter Sherwood. Not one to go home empty-handed, Sherwood bounced
back to win Sunday's final in convincing fashion.
Other final round winners from Central series action in Malone
include Joe Klimas (Sport Stock 600 Fan); Robert Desrocher (Plus 35
Masters); Scott Edwards (Plus 25 Stock); Sarah Acker (Jr. Girls 10-13
Stock 600 Fan); KC Anderson (Women's Stock 500); Jennifer Pare (Women
Stock 600 Sat. and Sunday); Amanda Patenaude (Women Stock Novice);
Will Fletcher (Jr. 16-17 Stock 600 Fan); Jake Scott (Jr. 14-15 Stock
600 Fan); and Beau Brand (Trail 600 Saturday and Sunday).
RMR's West series teams were also in action over the weekend in
Malone. Final round winners there include Arctic Cat pilot David
Duchnik (Semi-Pro Open); Jennifer Pare (Women Stock 600); Chad Miller
(Pro Stock and Pro Open); and mighty Jake Dasilva (Semi-Pro Stock).
RMR would like to thank everyone at the Malone Chamber of
Commerce for hosting Round 2 last weekend. The chamber and area
merchants make RMR's annual visit to Malone a real pleasure. The level
