RMR Snocross News: Epping, NH Event Preview

Debut at historic New England Dragway next stop for Rock Maple Racing
snocross series

DERRY, NH (Jan. 16, 2009) - For more than four decades, race
fans have gathered at New England Dragway to enjoy motorsports
entertainment from some
of the top names in national and regional drag racing.
Yet on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24-25, a different type of
high-performance engine will draw attention to the historic facility.
For the first time ever, the high-flying excitement of snowmobile
racing comes to Epping, as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) gets set for Round
4 on the 2008-09 snocross schedule.
Spectator gates open at 8 a.m., with racing getting under way
promptly at 9 a.m. Admission is $12 per day for adults, with weekend
passes available for $20. Children age 10 and under will be admitted
free with a paying adult. Pit passes valid through the entire weekend
will be available for an extra $10.
Leading the charge into Epping is veteran Pro rider Danny
Poirier, of St. Theodore, Quebec. Poirier is off to a terrific start
this season, sweeping the finals in Round 1 before adding another win
in Round 2 in upstate New York. As amazing at it seems, Poirier has
never won a Pro title in RMR competition. He and the entire Hulten
Speed Sports Polaris team are out to change that in 2009.
Other Pro riders to watch in Epping include former champions
Matt and Jason Boron. The talented brother act from Leverett, MA, ride
for Campton-based D&Z Racing, owned by respected businessman Dana
White. Matt missed most of last year while recovering from an injury,
while Jason hasn't missed a beat in snocross since he started way back
in 1997. A trio of hard-charging rookies will be striving for their
first victory in Epping. Former Semi-Pro stars Chris Chico (Arctic
Cat), Derek Graham (Polaris) and Jason Stone (Ski-doo) have the skills
and determination to succeed at this level.
In the equally-exciting Semi-Pro division, there are a handful
of riders to watch. Among the top contenders are Corin Todd (Ski-doo);
Brennan Berardo (Ski-doo); Lucas Brunelle (Ski-doo); Trevor Bouchard
(Ski-doo); Brad Davis (Polaris); and Garrett Mees (Ski-doo). These are
the true rising stars of regional snocross, and they'll put on a big
show in Epping.
New England Dragway is the only 1/4-mile drag strip in New
England. It first opened on September 11, 1966, thanks to the efforts
of the New England Hot Rod Council. Since then, the track has evolved
into one of the nation's premier drag racing facilities. New England
Dragway hosts the Amalie Oil IHRA North American Nationals each
September, along with a host of other national touring programs
throughout the season.
New Hampshire-based riders to watch at the dragway include
Bouchard (Derry); Jake DaSilva (Salem); Joey Mosher (Salem); Scott
Edwards (Contoocook) and Martha Wells (Colebrook). The Granite State
is well-represented in the RMR pit area each and every week.
Rock Maple Racing is now in its 17th consecutive season of
snocross competition. Along with the Central, West and East snocross
tours, RMR also sanctions the Can-Am ATV Series during the summer
months. For more information, go to www.rockmaple.com.
