TOYOTA TUNDRA 250 FEATURE EVENT OF HUGE WISCASSET RACEWAY WEEKEND

TOYOTA TUNDRA 250 FEATURE EVENT OF HUGE WISCASSET RACEWAY WEEKEND

The attention of the northern New England racing world will be on
Wiscasset Raceway this weekend as track owner/promoter Doug White
presents his biggest program of the 2008 season, highlighted by
Sunday's N.E. Toyota Tundra 250. The $30,000 to win race, sanctioned
by the Pro All Stars Series, caps off a busy double header weekend of
action at Maine's Center of Speed as it will gather the top Prostock &
Super Late Model drivers from the region and beyond looking for their
share of the $120,000 purse. The weekend of action starts Saturday
August 16th at 5:00pm with racing in five weekly divisions plus the
final appearance of the year for the NELCAR Legends. It will also be
"Racing for Maine's Miracles Family Day" at the track with fundraising
activites to benefit Maine families with children being treated at the
Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland. There will be bike
raffles and drivers will be collecting cash, gift cards and gas cards
and toy donations from generous fans. Some special families will given
VIP treatment as honorary guests at Saturday night's show. On the
track the Smith Construction Late Model Sportsman will have center
stage with a 50 lap main event and $1000 to win. As an added
incentive, the winner can bypass the money and take a provisional
starting spot in Sunday's main event. While the Clark's Car Crushing
Prostocks will not be in action many teams will be on hand for the
practice sessions intermixed in Saturday night's schedule. Finally the
show will be capped off with a huge fireworks display presented by
Central Maine Pyrotechnics. Pit gates open Saturday at 12:00 noon with
practice beginning at 1:00pm. Grandstand gates will open at 3:00pm.
Sunday's program will feature an ambitious and action packed lineup of
racing beginning at 2:00pm with heat races for the Toyota Tundra 250
followed by action in three support divisions. The PASS Sportsman
Series will run double duty with a 50 lap makeup feature to go along
with a regularly scheduled 75 lap race. The PASS Modified's will run a
40 lap feature and Wiscasset's Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets
will run a special 50 lap qualifier for the Street Stock Nationals at
Wiscasset in early October. Sunday's main event will be filled by a
series of five 20 lap qualifing heats, three 15 lap consolation heats,
and a 50 lap "last chance" race. The remainder of the 36+ car field
will be filled by PASS and Wiscasset provisionals. Six drivers already
have earned guaranteed starting spots for the race. PASS regulars
Corey Williams of Boothbay, Johnny Clark of Hallowell and DJ Shaw of
Center Conway, NH will join Wiscasset regulars Bill Whorff Jr, Matt
Lee and Ricky Morse as drivers who know they are in the show. The
stellar linup of talent already registered for the race will also
feature the likes of 5-time Wiscasset Prostock champ Scott Chubbuck,
5-time defending PASS SLM North champion Ben Rowe and his legendary
father Mike Rowe, Big Dawg 400 winner Sam Sessions, former Oxford 250
champs Jeremy Whorff and Larry Gelinas, and last weekend's most recent
PASS winner Travis Benjamin. Maine racing legend Stan Messerve is also
making the trip up from Mooresville, North Carolina to make the show.
On Sunday the pit gates will open early at 7:00am with practice
starting at 9:00pm. Grandstand gates will open at 12 noon and the
green flag will drop at 2:00pm. Miss Maine International 2008 Kimberly
Cyrway of Benton will be a special guest on hand for Sunday's program.
