36th annual TD Banknorth 250 set for Sunday, July 19, 2009

For sixth straight year, it's open date for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
OXFORD, Maine - Oxford Plains Speedway announced today that the 36th
annual TD Banknorth 250 Presented By New England Dodge Dealers will be
held Sunday, July 19, 2009.
For the sixth consecutive year, the race will coincide with an open
weekend on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. NASCAR released the 2009
schedules for its three major touring series on Tuesday.
"We are excited once again about the opportunities that weekend will
create for our fans and competitors," said OPS owner Bill Ryan. "We
look forward to another great race with another huge field of cars."
This summer, Kevin Harvick became the first active Sprint Cup driver
to win the TD Banknorth 250.
The Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 champion added New England's short
track summer classic to his list of racing laurels, holding off
regional Late Model stars Glen Luce of Turner, Maine, and Joey
Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, N.H., for the victory on July 21.
Harvick added another heavy hitter to a lengthy list of NASCAR
dignitaries that have attempted to win the race since it fell in line
with an open date in20their schedule in 2004.
Past entrants include Cup champions Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch and Terry
Labonte, current Sprint Cup point leader Kyle Busch and Joe Gibbs
Racing star Denny Hamlin.
Eighty-eight drivers attempted to compete for one of the starting
spots in this year's 250, making it the largest draw and toughest
qualifying challenge in the region.
This year's race winner was guaranteed $25,000, plus $100 for every
green-flag lap led. Harvick took home a winner's check of $37,300 and
a 6-foot, 2-inch-tall trophy.
