UNITY RACEWAY - 8/29

The cloudy morning turned into a wonderful afternoon for the final
race of August. The crowd was there in anticipation of what the Flying
Fernald was going to jump thru this year. The fans were pleased to
find out it was another mobile home. This year the jumping vehicle was
a mini van. The jump had to be just perfect. George again proved to be
right on the mark as he cleared the whole trailer on the first jump.
The fans were in for a treat as he made the jump a second and third
time. The only thing that calmed him down was the van had seen it's
better day. We can only wonder what next year will bring.

The Ladies division is getting more and more competitive each week.
This week saw thirteen cars challenge for the lead. The heat race saw
caution fly on lap one as Kayla Robinson spun in turn one. Melissa
Higgins used this opportunity to jump to the lead. Meagan Allen made a
return trip to the track to run a close second. Higgins increased her
lead and took her first checkered flag of the season. The feature
would again have caution fly on lap one. A spinning machine forced
point leader, Samantha Letourneau, hard into the turn one banking.
This would force Letourneau to the pits for the night. Meagan Allen
would jump to the lead. Carol Wilson is using the inside lane to fly
up thru the pack. Wilson catches Allen and charges by on the inside.
Rhonda Lyford has taken over second position from Allen. Allen is
being challenged for third by Molly Feeney. Shelby Kimball, moving up
from the Teen division to run with the Ladies, breaks into the top
five from her rear starting position. Feeney has cleared Allen and put
her sights on Lyford. Feeney makes her way around Lyford. Wilson has
driven away from the field. Time is running out for Feeney to catch
Wilson. Wilson bobbles out of four allowing Feeney to close up the
gap. Wilson is able to hold on for the win. Feeney finishes a very
close second. Rhonda Lyford joins the pair in victory lane with third.
Allen has a strong run in fourth. Shelby Kimball finishes fifth in her
debut in the Ladies division.

Ben Clark and Cary Davis cleared the field and started pulling away in
the heat race. Davis challenges Clark in the inside. Rackliff has
joined the pair. Clark holds them off for the heat race win. Jim Denis
takes the early race lead. Davis moves into the second spot. Steve
Rackliff uses the inside lane to take over third from Ben Clark. Bill
Ellis is having a fine run in fifth. Rackliff has moved to the inside
of Davis to challenge for second. The pair are catching leader, Denis.
Mechanical problems for Dennis causes him to spin and bring out the
first caution. Dennis is taken to the pits, but is able to rejoin the
field before the restart. Rackliff and Davis race side by side for the
lead. Clark has moved back into the third spot. Rackliff has cleared
Davis and taken the lead. Clark is gaining slightly on Davis. Dennis
has weaved thru traffic to take over the fourth spot. Rackliff cruises
to the win. Davis follows in second. Ben Clark has another fine run in
third. Dennis recovers from his spin to finish in fourth. Corey Walker
follows up last weeks top three with a fifth place finish.

Brandon Greenleaf started the Teen division heat race out with a bang.
The #68 machine rolled under the flag stand bringing out the red flag.
Greenleaf was okay, but the car was done for the night. Ben Nile and
Shelby Kimball go side by side on the restart for the lead. Nile is
able to take the lead from Kimball and cruise to the heat race win.
Lucas Porter is able to clear traffic and take the early race lead.
Shelby Kimball is following in a strong second. Jeremy Ludden is
passing the field on the outside. Ricky Palmer tries to follow Ludden,
but the door is shut. Ludden has caught Porter and taken over the lead
spot. Palmer has cleared the traffic and moved into the second
position. Ben Nile is making his presence known in the top five by
passing Kimball for fourth. Ludden is pulling away from the field.
Nile is reeling in the third place Porter. Caution would fly on lap 12
as ten year old, Westley Turner, would spin in turn 3. Ludden and
Palmer would race for the lead on the restart. Palmer would take the
lead and the win. Ludden would take home second. Lucas Porter would
bring home the hardware with a third place finish. Ben Nile has a
strong run in fourth. Shelby Kimball finishes out the top five.

The Unity Variety and Video Wildcats heat race saw point leader,
Dustin Hubbard, jump to the early race lead. Carl McAlpine weaves thru
traffic from his last place starting position to take over second.
Hubbard has a commanding lead and cruises to the win. Hubbard again
would take the lead on the start of the feature. Troy Patterson clears
Mike Snow to take the second position. Patterson has a rear view
mirror full of Carl McAlpine. The pair go side by side with McAlpine
using the inside lane to take second. Tim Hudson is up to challenge
Patterson for third. Hubbard has a straight away lead over McAlpine.
Todd Rollins is having a fine run in fifth. Hubbard's lead would be
erased as the spinning lapped car of Tim Hopkins comes in contact with
Hubbard's machine bringing out the caution. McAlpine would jump to the
lead on the restart. Hubbard would take over second position. Tim
Hudson followed the pair in third. Hubbard continues to gain on
McAlpine. Time would run out. McAlpine takes another win. Hubbard
would follow a close second. Hudson follows in third. Troy Patterson
cruised to a fine fourth place finish. "Hurricane" Hal Stratton
finished out the top five.

The Sportsman division saw a fine battle between the Bill Smith and
Bryan Robbins. Smith jumped to the early race lead. Robbins would try
every line around the leader. He could just not quite have enough to
get around. Smith would take home his first heat race win of the
season. Kris Huff recovered from last weeks crash to jump to the early
race lead. Bryan Robbins follows in second. Bill Smith and Kris Watson
bump coming off turn 2 to bring out the first caution closing up the
field. Huff would again jump to the lead. This time Brad Bellows would
follow Huff. Bellows would take the lead has Huff would experience
transmission problems at the start finish line. Caution would fly
again as Mark Dodge spins off turn 3. The Dodge machine would not
refire and retired to the pits. Bellows would take the lead. Don York
moves into second as Bryan Robbins is getting loose. Brian Fortin
returns to the track running in the fourth position. Bill Smith has
moved into the fifth spot. Robbins is trying the inside line around
York. Bellows has checked out on the field to take the win. York beats
Robbins to the line for second. Bryan Robbins, to the liking of son
Colby, takes home the third place trophy. Fortin has a fine run in
fourth. Bill Smith finishes out the top five.

The Enduro divison saw a fine field of cars start the race. Dominic
Bailey jumped to the early race lead. Nick Lizotte followed in second.
Bobby Seger followed a close third. As the leaders caught lapped
traffic, the field was jumbled. Mickey Landry, Jr., making his debut
in the Enduro division, took the lead. As Landry was weaving thru the
traffic, Douglas Kus was trying to keep the 01 machine in his sights.
Dominic Bailey had given up his lead, but the leaders were not pulling
away. Henry Boudreau, moving to the machine vacated by Alex Fernald,
is running in the fourth position. The red flag would fly as a racing
competitor did not stay in his car and was walking the infield. The
restart would find Landry in the lead again. Kus and Bailey would
follow. Boudreau has problems with a lapped car allowing the field to
close up for the fourth position. When the dust cleared, it was Landry
taking the checkered. Kus follows in second. Bailey has a fine run in
third. Boudreau would recover from his spin to take home the fourth
spot.

The Men's Peanut division saw Ryan Ripley jump to the lead in the heat
race. Josh Childs has cleared traffic and gaining on the leader.
Childs can't catch the leading Ripley as he takes the heat race win.
Cody Sleeper streaks to the early race lead. Kyle Gallant follows in
second. Ripley has already broken into the top three from his rear
starting position. Childs is attached to the rear bumper of Chris
Williams running in fourth and fifth. Cody Sleeper continues to check
out on the field. Ripley works his way around Gallant for second.
Childs follows him thru for third. Ripley is catching Cody Sleeper but
the laps are winding down. Cody Sleeper is able to hold on for the
win. Ripley follows a very close second. Josh Childs makes another
trip to victory lane in third. Kyle Gallant has a fine run in fourth.
Dan Quillia, making his 2008 debut at the track, finishes out the top
five.

Josh St Clair and Deane Smart race door to door. Josh St Clair gains a
little on the outside only to have Smart fight back on the inside.
Josh St Clair gets loose on the outside bringing out the caution. The
restart finds Joey Doyon and Smart going door to door. Smart is again
able use the inside to take the heat race win. Dustin Hubbard would
take the lead in the feature. Josh St Clair would challenge Hubbard on
the inside. A caution on lap 4 would close the field up. Josh St Clair
would take the lead on the restart. Brad Bellows fights for the second
position on the inside. Hubbard is hanging tough on the outside. Smart
is passing the field on the inside and is challenging for the second
spot. Joey Doyon has moved up from the rear of the field into the
fourth position. Seth Raven, making is first 2008 Unity start,
challenges Hubbard for fifth. Smart has caught Josh St Clair. Smart
sneaks by Josh St Clair on the inside to take the lead. Bellows is
holding on to the third position. Doyon and Hubbard finish out the top
five. Smart is checking out on the field. Bellows catches Josh St
Clair. The pair go side by side. Smart crosses the line first for the
win. Josh St Clair holds off Bellows for second. Bellows continues his
fine runs in third. Doyon takes home the fourth spot. Hubbard finishes
out the top five with a fine run.

Richard Jackson took the lead in the dirt from Duane Dunifer Sr in the
Monsta Mini heat race. Richard Jackson would follow in the footsteps
of girlfriend, Melissa Higgins, by taking the heat race win. Gary
Richards takes the lead with Markus Lowe on his bumper in the feature.
Richard Jackson has already taken over third position from the rear of
the field. Richard Jackson is challenging Lowe on the inside for
second. Chad Elkins is keeping the leaders in his sights in fourth.
Point leader, Mike Wilson, runs in fifth. Lowe and Richard Jackson
continue to run door to door for second. A violent rollover on lap 9
brings out the red flag. Duane Dunifer Sr caught the front tire of the
spinning Matt Picard launching the car in the air. Dunifer would get
out of his car under his own power. The car was retired. Richards
jumps to the lead again on the restart. Richard Jackson is able to use
the inside line to take the lead. Wilson and Lowe battle for third.
The restart would have the battle between Richard Jackson and Richards
surface again. Richards would use the outside to take the lead. Lowe
is all over the rear bumper of Richard Jackson's machine. Richard's
drifts wide out of turn four allowing Richard Jackson to take the
lead. Richards would try the inside and out to get back by. Richard
Jackson would take his first checkered of the 2008 season after many
second place finishes. Richards would follow up in second. Lowe would
make a trip to victory lane in third. Chad Elkins would have a fine
run in fourth. Paul Jackson finished with another top five finish.

This week will have the return of the Nelcar Legends, the final kids
bike race of the season, as well as the fund raiser for the Humane
Society. Teen Thunder drivers, Ben Nile and Shelby Kimball, will also
be having a raffle with all proceeds going to the Children's Miracle
Network. Hope to see you all there.

DAREN RIPLEY WINS NAPA 100 LATE MODEL MAIN AT WISCASSET

WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 8/30/08

DAREN RIPLEY WINS NAPA 100 LATE MODEL MAIN AT WISCASSET

Over the past eighteen years Darren Ripley has established himself
as an extra distance specialist on the highbanks of Wiscasset Raceway;
perhaps one of the best in the track's history. Saturday night he
added another line to his already stacked resume by dominating the
NAPA 100 at the "Center of Speed". He led the race wire to wire,
surviving the race's three cautions and then holding off a late race
challenge by Chris Thorne and TJ Watson to pickup the victory. Ripley,
who has piled up a long list of 100 lap wins in Super Street, Late
Model and Prostock competition over the years, was also the runnerup
in the annual Coastal 200 back in May. The victory highlighted a full
program of action at Wiscasset Raceway sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts,
represented by ten area NAPA stores. The only time Ripley appeared to
have a serious run at his lead was on the final restart of the race on
lap 90. After three laps Ripley shook off the challenge and pulled
away to the victory by about five carlengths. Thorne and Watson put on
the best battle of the race as they went door to door over the final
20 laps of the race. Thorne picked up the 2nd place trophy and Watson
settled for 3rd. Steve Reno of West Bath finished 4th and Adam
Chadbourne of Woolwich was the last car left on the lead lap in 5th.
In support action on the evening, Mike Landry of Oakland took the win
in a special 40 lap feature for the Unicel Super Streets. Landry
withstood early pressure from teammate Kevin Douglass and then pulled
away to his 5th win of the year in his #40 Mainley Roofing sponsored
ride. Former champ Adam Chadbourne joined the Super Streets for just
the second time this year and picked his way up through traffic to
finish second. RJ Austin was involved in a midrace spin and recovered
to finish 3rd. The point chase in the Clark's Car Crushing Prostocks
tightend up again as Jeff Burgess picked up his 2nd win of the season.
He held off relentless pressure from Chuck Colby to take the victory.
Colby's recent hot streak continued with a runner up trophy. He has
finished in the top two in three straight races. Bangor's Gary Smith
made it two straight weeks in the top three with his 3rd place finish.
With the win Burgess jumped past John Phippen in the standings to 2nd,
just 20 points behind division leader Randy Turner. Turner finished
4th in the feature followed by defending champ Scott Moore 0f Anson in
5th. In the Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets Maurice Young of
Windsor started on the outside of the front row, took the lead on lap
two and pulled away to another convincing win. It was his track high
10th win of the season. Ed Pierpont of Jefferson, the division
runnerup finished 2nd and Ian Bresnahan completed a whirlwind day of
travel to post an impressive 3rd place finish. In victory lane
Bresnahan revealed to the crowd that earlier in the afternoon when
prerace practice began at the track, he was in South Carolina and
after two flights and a "disagreement" at a rental car counter he made
it to the track just in time to make the feature. The kids took
control of the Aable Autoparts Mini Stock division in their 20 lap
feature. 13 year old Ryan Ripley, nephew of Darren Ripley, took the
lead on the first lap of the race and ran to his 3rd win of the
season. 14 year old drivers Natasha Dyer of Arrowsic and Tom True of
Wiscasset each notched season best finishes by taking 2nd and 3rd
respectively. True just edged out point leader Dylan Lancaster in a
photo finish. Pete McCollet filled the top five. In the 15 lap feature
for the White & Bradstreet Mini Trucks, Chris Doucette picked up his
division high 6th win of the year. He was joined in victory lane by
Josh Kauffman of Unity and Jason Giggey also of Unity. For Kauffman it
was his personal best at Wiscasset.

OPS - Adams, Tripp, Marshall cruise to titles

Adams, Tripp, Marshall cruise to titles

OXFORD, Maine - So much for playing it conservatively.
Five drivers entered Polly's Variety Championship Night at Oxford
Plains Speedway with a relatively comfortable point lead Saturday.
None of them left anything to chance, however, finishing in the top
five to clinch their championships in style.
By running fourth in the Oxford Networks Late Model 40-lap feature,
Travis Adams won his third consecutive crown and fourth of his career.
He joins a select group of four-time champions at OPS that includes
Jeff Taylor (nine), Mike Rowe (seven), Carey Martin (five), and Dennis
Spencer Jr., Leland Kangas, Jon Lizotte, Blaine Chapman, David Smith
and Willie Buffington (four each).
"We bought this car from Race Basics, and it's won four of the last
six championships," Adams said. "I'm proud of this team and proud of
my family."
Ricky Rolfe won the final Late Model feature of the season, his sixth
in 13 starts this summer. Rolfe and Adams celebrated with dual
burnouts against the front stretch wall to the delight of the large
crowd.
Don Wentworth and Billy Childs Jr. finished second and third after a
tense, three-car battle with Adams. Jeff White was fifth. The
champion's closest pursuer in the points, Shawn Martin, wound up
eighth.
Skip Tripp needed only to start his heat and feature to become Allen's
Coffee Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock champ for the first time. He ran
fifth in the 30-lap finale.
"We won a couple of races and got off to a great start, but then we
had our DNF's, we had out stop-and-go penalty one week," Tripp said.
"It was a real challenge. Richard and Kelly of R.P.M. Racing Engines
gave me a great opportunity to drive this car, and I'm so thankful for
that."
Mike Short ran away with his fifth victory of the season, with B.J.
Chapman, Larry Emerson, Tommy Tompkins and Tripp rounding out the top
five.
Marshall, only completing his third full season as a driver, joined
the roster of OPS champions who accomplished the feat without the
benefit of a victory, His fourth-place finish Saturday night was his
10th top-five finish in 20 starts.
Only three times did Marshall end up outside the top 10.
"I've never been more nervous in a race car than tonight," Marshall
said. "I really wanted to finish third, but Kevin (Bishop) definitely
wanted it more than me, so I sort of let him have it."
Bishop's pass of Marshall for third took place nearly a full
straightaway behind winner Adam Polvinen and runner-up Steve Barker.
Polvinen carried his third checkered flag of the campaign. Justin
Karkos took fifth.
Jordan chased teammate Jason Berry across the line at the front of a
25-car Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel field.
The win was a career first for Berry, who was Lampron Energy Rookie of
the Year in the division. The Agren Appliance Saturday Showdown title
is the first of any kind for Jordan, who won twice in the eight-race
weekend series.
Josh Childs, Calvin Rose Jr. and Scott Farrington followed Berry and
Jordan across the stripe.
Record-smashing Jake Burns coupled his Wednesday Acceleration Series
title with the Agren honors in the Call of the Wild RV Center Sport
Truck division. Burns fell a truck length shy of his astonishing 13th
win of the year, however, with Ryan Farrar claiming his second victory
by that margin. Ross Spurling, John Lizotte and Jeff Schmidt followed.

Scarborough, Maine-Labor Day weekend racing at Beech Ridge Motor
Speedway set the stage for championship weekend and the final race of
the season next week and Bub Bilodeau is in position to trace for the
title. Bilodeau took down the 40 lap Pro Series feature win on
Saturday setting up a battle between himself and Bobby Babb for top
honors for the season.

Steven Jones opened up the Pro Series race as the leader until lap 7
when Chris Smith took over. Smith opened up a full straight lead
over the field but Bub Bilodeau was slicing his way to the front.
Bilodeau moved to second on lap 16 and began to chase down leading
rookie driver Smith.

Bilodeau arrived on the scene at lap 27 and was the leader of the race
on lap 28. there were no caution flags in the 40 lap event as
Bilodeau took down the win with Smith second. Bill Rodgers was third
and Bobby Babb made a late race rally to finish fifth. Aaron Ricker
raced home in the fifth position. Unofficially Bilodeau leads Babb by
a mere 6 points entering the final race.

Corey Bubar won for the second time this season in the Sport Series 35
lap feature race. Patrick Thorne put together one of his best runs of
the season as he led the opening 16 laps. Bubar then made his way to
the front taking over the top position at lap 17 as Andy Field
followed along in second place. Bubar had to endure 3 late race
caution flags before the victory was secure as he held off Field who
was second and Don Morse in third. Doug Wolfe and Reggie Leeman
rounded out the top 5 finishers. Unofficially Sally Gherardi leads
the division standing by 42 points over Frank Wear entering the final
race.

Richard Randall was the winner of the 30 lap Wildcat feature race on
Saturday night. Randall went to the front on lap 7 and never looked
back after passing Dan Bean for the lead. The race was slowed on lap
14 for a caution flag but there was no challenge for Randall as he
easily took the win. Steve Benincasa finished second with Bean
getting third. Brian Caswell and Gary Babineau were fourth and fifth
at the finish. Unofficially Babineau is the new point leader by 20.

The Road Runner feature race was hotly contested as Kari Thibodeau led
from the start but a full field of cars were side by side behind her
battling for position. Thibodeau led until lap 14 when Mark Boutin
went around her and took the lead. Ed Pierce moved to second place
and hounded Boutin to the finish as they came across the finish line
first and second. Third went to Ray Dinsmore with Shawn Brackett
clinching the division title with his fourth place finish and Ed
Connolly fifth.

This Saturday night is championship night and the final race of the
season. Starting time on Saturday is 6:30pm with a rain date of
Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm if needed.

Black overcomes flat tire to repeat as Unicel Full-Size Enduro winner;
Hewins captures Compact half of 75-lap twins

OXFORD, Maine – Jason Black limped across the finish line Friday night
on a flat right front tire to win the 75-lap Unicel Motor Mayhem
full-size Enduro, completing a sweep of the two events at Oxford
Plains Speedway this season.
Black took the lead on lap 8 and eventually lapped the remainder of
the field, a development that proved necessary when the telltale
sparks shooting from the side of his ride worsened as the white flag
appeared.
Roger Bradstreet and Phil Knowlton ducked underneath Black on the
final lap, but it wasn't enough to take away the $500 victory.
"We had a few more problems this time," said Black, who completed the
race after the rear of his car was caved in from heavy contact while
scrapping with lapped traffic.
Mike St. Germain and Bob Morey rounded out the top five.
Nine lead changes highlighted the Compact event before Kyle Hewins
dropped the hammer and dominated the final 33 circuits.
Hewins led on three different occasions, overcoming an early- race spin.
"I took out the whole side of my car and ruined the radiator," said
Hewins, "but it held together and here I am."
Charlie Webster led three different times for 33 laps before settling
for second. He was the only other driver on the lead lap.
Skip Douglass Jr. backed up his win four weeks ago with a third-place
run, followed by Corey Williams and Dana Cook.
Bruce Berry edged Andy McGary, 2-1, in the best-of-three Spectator Drags final.
Doug Dixon smoked a field of 16 to capture the Smoky Donut crown. Kyle
Curtis, also a semifinalist in Drags and a top-10 finisher in the
Compact Enduro, wound up second.
OPS returns to action Saturday with Polly's Variety Championship
Night, featuring racing in five divisions and a gigantic fireworks
display. There's an on-track autograph session at 5:45 p.m., with
racing at 6:30.

WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 8/25/08

WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 8/25/08

COLBY AND MCCOLLET ARE BIG WINNERS SATURDAY NIGHT AT WISCASSET

Saturday night at Wiscasset Raceway Chuck Colby and Pete McCollet
each picked up their third victory of 2008 in their respective
divisions. In doing so, they helped put in two of the most exciting
races of the season at "Maine's Center of Speed". Colby ran door to
door with Bangor's Gary Smith for the final nine laps of the 50 lap
feature for the Clark's Car Crushing Prostocks and the pair put on a
show for the fans. Smith started from the pole position and held the
early lead over Jeff Burgess through the first 19 laps until a flat
tire and bad right front wheel bearing would send Burgess into the
tire wall in turn two. Charlie Colby (Chuck's father) would move up to
the 2nd position for the restart. The next five laps Smith and Colby
would trade the lead back and forth while Chuck Colby moved up to
third from his 8th starting position. The next caution wouldn't come
out until lap 42 when Charlie Colby would loose his hold on the race
track coming out of turn four and go spinning down the front stretch
to the infield. The lap 42 restart would bring the younger Colby up to
challenge Smith on the outside. Trading the lead back and forth inside
the final laps, the pair never made contact, but never seperated by
more than a half car length. The third and final caution would set up
an exciting green-white-checker finish and Colby would stay strong on
the outside and take the win by just a foot at the line over Smith.
For Smith it was his best finish of the year at the Center of Speed,
as he never trailed in the race by more than a car length against
three different challengers. Freedom's Randy Turner would retake the
division point leader with his 3rd place finish. In the evening's
co-main event, Pete McCollet held off challenges from Shawn Kimball,
Ryan Ripley, and Dylan Lancaster to pick up the win in the 30 lap
qualifier for the Aable Autoparts Mini Stocks. With the victory he
secured himself a guarenteed starting position in the $1000 to win
Real Stock Mini Stock Nationals to be held at Wiscasset in early
October. Kimball was the winner of the first qualifier in June.
Brother's Dylan and Bryan Lancaster started on the front row and
brought the pack to the green flag, but a caution just a lap into the
race would bunch them back up. McCollet took over the lead on lap five
by racing under Dylan Lancaster through turn one and two, bringing
Kimball with him to 2nd. As the race proceeded Kimball provided
relentless pressure to the leader as Ryan Ripley moved into the
picture from his 8th starting spot. Just two other cautions for minor
spins would slow the action, but the final caution, like the
Prostocks, set up a green-white-checker finish for them. Six cars
stayed wrapped up tight for the three podium positions in victory
lane. McCollet took the win by just a carlength in his #20 Ladd
Plumbing & Heating sponsored V.W. Golf. Coming out of turn four to the
checkers Ripley pulled to the inside of both the front runners and
took away second. Kimball, who spent the last ten laps of the race on
McCollet's outside door had to settle for 3rd. Dylan Lancaster, the
division point leader took fourth, followed by defending champ Kevin
Douglass in 5th.

In other action on the evening, sponsored by Peaslee's Mountain
Hunting Park and J.C. Stone Company of Jefferson, Chris Thorne
outraced Daren Ripley and then took advantage of a caution-checkers
finish to pick up his 4th win of the season in the 30 lap Smith
Conctruction Late Models feature. On the final lap as Ripley slowed to
avoid cars that had spun in turn three, rookie Adam Chadbourne and
Ajay Piccard would slip by him to grab the 2nd and 3rd place trophies.
In victory lane Thorne gave his father Gary all the credit for the
win. "This is just the second time we've used radios this year and my
dad was the one who reminded me to race back to the checkers on the
last lap caution" said the winner chuckling, "if it wasnt for him I
probably would have been passed". Maurice young continued his
dominance of the Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets, leading wire to
wire in the 20 lap feature and picking up his career high and track
high 9th win of the season. He was joined in victory lane by Ed
Peirpont of Jefferson and Ian Bresnahan of Bath. With his 2nd place
finish, Peirpont jumped past Bobby Mesimer into 2nd in the point
standings. In the 25 lap feature for the Unicel / Budwieser Super
Streets, Smithfield's RJ Austin survived a wreck filled race to pick
up his 2nd win of the season. Mike Landry of Oakland and Shawn Austin
of Norrodgewock joined him in victory lane. Chris Doucette of Sebego
was once again a winner in the 15 lap feature for the White &
Bradstreet Mini Trucks. He took advantage of two early race cautions
and then held off Jason Giggey to grab his 5th win of the season. Russ
Anderson of Portsmouth, NH joined the the pair in victory lane to
claim the 3rd place trophy. Wiscasset Raceway returns to action
Saturday August 30th at 5:00pm with a big show highlighted by the NAPA
Autoparts Twin 100's. The annual Labor Day weekend show will feature
100 lap co-main events for the Smith Construction Late Models and the
Unicel / Budwieser Super Streets. Wiscasset's other weekly racing
series divisions will also be in action with regular points racing.

Phase II of North-South Shootout Qualifying Race Schedule Announced

Phase II of North-South Shootout Qualifying Race Schedule Announced

Lexington, NC: With the Northern qualifying race schedule already in
place, C&C Racing Promotions set out to finalize the calendar for both
the Southern Modifieds and the Supermodifieds races as part of this
year's 6th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout TM
and East-West Supermodified Shootout TM. The end result is a
comprehensive schedule that is representative of both the sanctioning
bodies and geographic scope of those that participate in the annual
event.

Since its inception, C&C Racing Promotions, in cooperation with top
race promoters on the east coast, has hosted a number of qualifying
events. The winning car owner of each designated qualifying race is
awarded a guaranteed starting spot in their respective divisions.

"We are very happy with this year's schedule," said Race Promoter,
Charles Kepley of Lexington, NC. "The line-up of qualifying races is a
good mix of all the Series that join together to race at the Shootout
every year. There is a fair shot for those guys to get a win and head
to Concord knowing they are in the race."

In its inaugural season the East-West Supermodified Shootout TM
attracted teams from across the country. In 2008, C&C Racing
Promotions hopes to continue with that tradition. To help teams along
the way, C&C has announced a nine-race qualifier schedule. The winning
car owners at two (2) International Supermodified Association (ISMA)
races, two (2) Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) races, two (2)
Supermodified Racing Association (SMRA) races, two (2) Englewood
Racing Association (ERA) and two "open" shows will receive guaranteed
starting spots for their teams. Charlie Schultz, Chris Perley, and
Brian Warf have already secured starting spots for their respective
car owners in events held at Sandusky and Madera Speedways.

The West Coast swing includes the August 30, 2008 and September 6,
2008 events at Colorado National for the ERA contingent; and the
September 20, 2008 Harvest Classic at Madera (CA) Speedway for SMRA.
The "open" events will include the August 31, 2008 Classic (Non-Wing)
at Oswego Speedway; and the All-Star Classic on September 6, 2008 at
All-Star Speedway in Epping, NH. A final event for the MSA sanctioned
teams will be added at Toledo Speedway in Ohio.

For the Modified teams hailing from south of the Mason-Dixon line, the
schedule is split between the two primary sanctioning bodies in the
South-the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (WSMT) and the ASA
Southern Modified Race Tour. The Whelen Southern Modified Tour events
at Caraway Speedway on August 22, 2008 and at Southern National
Speedway on September 13, 2008 will both carry guaranteed starting
spots for the winning car owners. The ASA Southern Modified Race Tour
will host their second qualifying event on October 25, 2008 at Hickory
Speedway. Brian King won the first ASA qualifier on May 23, 2008 at
Ace Speedway.

The crown jewel of the southern Modified qualifying events will be the
Brian Pack Memorial that will be held on September 1, 2008 also at Ace
Speedway.

"This will be a very emotional night for everyone involved in short
track racing down South," said Kepley. "This race will mean a lot to
the team that wins it, not only for the qualifying spot but because of
it's importance as a tribute to Brian Pack."

Since its inception, Brian Pack and his family, including his fellow
racer, his father Gene, have been avid supporters of the North-South
Shootout TM.

A host of qualifying races have already been run for the Modifieds,
SK-Type Modifieds, and Supermodifieds. Drivers Ronnie Silk of Norwalk,
CT, and Jimmy Blewett of Howell, NJ, have already secured their spots
in the line-up for the annual event. Southern Modified competitor
Brian King also has scored himself a guaranteed starting spot in the
Modified portion of the event.

In Supermodified qualifiers, Charlie Schultz of Lorain, OH, Chris
Perley of Rowley, MA, and Bryan Warf, of Meridian, ID, have each
earned a berth in the East-West Supermodified Shootout TM. Three
drivers took advantage of North-South Shootout TM qualify race events
to earn guaranteed starting spots for their car owners in the SK-Type
Modified portion of the North-South Shootout™ including Doug Coby of
Milford, CT, Tyler Chadwick of Ledyard, CT, Henry Stampfl of
Plainville, MA.

In addition to the guaranteed starting spots for their owners, each
driver capturing a victory in qualifying race action will receive a
Joie of Seating gift certificate and a custom commemorative award
courtesy of C&C Racing Promotions, proud promoters of the North-South
Shootout TM.

UNITY RACEWAY - AUGUST, 22

Fan Appreciation/Champions night proved to be fun for young and old.
The largest crowd of the season saw the past champions signing
autographs, while current drivers filled up the track meeting fans
face to face. It was a fun night for all. Track management would like
to thank everyone that made this event one to remember.

The Monsta Mini division saw one of it's largest field's this year hit
the track. Mike Wilson continued his winning ways in the first heat
race with Markus Lowe right on his bumper. Kyle Gallant took control
of the second heat race. Gary Richards gave him a side by side battle
on the last lap. Richards car broke loose in the last corner allowing
Gallant the win. Richards crossed the line backwards for second. Mike
Wilson, returning from his mechanical woes of a week ago, jumps to the
early race lead. Gary Richards clears traffic for second. Paul and
Richard Jackson follow the pair in third and fourth. Wilson is
checking out on the field. Richard Jackson has caught Richards for
second. Duane Dunifer has moved thru the field to take third from Paul
Jackson. Wilson takes the win. Richard Jackson continues his string of
second place finishes. Duane Dunifer returns to victory lane in third.
Paul Jackson continues his run of top five finishes in fourth. Chad
Elkins takes the #12 machine to a fifth place finish.

The Limited division heat race was a battle from the drop of the
checkered flag. Joey Doyon and Deane Smart would race door handle to
door handle for almost the entire race. Doyon is able to take a slight
lead on the outside and take the heat race win. Doyon jumps to the
early lead in the feature. Brad Bellows, up from the Sportsman class,
takes over second position. Smart is challenging Bellows on the
inside. Caution on lap 9 for a spinning Dustin Hubbard slows the
field. Caution would fly again on lap 10 as Dave St Clair and Hubbard
would find the turn one banking. Doyon retakes the lead on the
restart. Smart would use the inside line again to take over the second
position from Bellows. Caution would fly again on lap 12 as Josh St
Clair is stuck on the back stretch lip. The restart would find Hubbard
and Dave St Clair again spinning into the turn one bank. Hubbard is
able to drive away. Dave St Clair is carried to the pits on the hook
with major damage. Doyon would take the lead on this final restart and
never look back. Doyon crosses the line first. Smart is able to hold
off the charging Bellows for second. Bellows takes home his first
trophy of the year from the Limited division. Gary Thorne, making his
2008 Unity debut, finishes out a strong fourth. Hubbard, recovering
from all the cautions, finishes out the top five.

Young Alex Fernald took his #2 machine to the early race lead. Alex
Fernald, James Swan, Jr, and Dominic Bailey are weaving thru lapped
traffic. Bailey has some troubles and looses the top pair. Joey Doyon,
trying his hand at Enduro driving, makes a daring three wide move to
take over the second spot from James Swan Jr. Doyon has caught the
leading Alex Fernald. Doyon and Alex Fernald go door to door going
into to turn one. A lapped car on the outside forces contact between
the pair. The Fernald machine slows as a right front tire has been cut
down. Doyon pulls away from the field. Doug Kus has moved into the
second position as Alex Fernald continues to slow. Newcomer, Ryan
Chadwick, has taken over the third place position. Doyon continues to
weave thru lapped traffic with ease. Doyon crosses the stripe for the
win. Doug Kus finishes in second. Ryan Chadwick makes his first trip
to Unity's victory lane. Patrick Cook, piloting a new machine,
finishes in a strong fourth place position. Shadow Folsom finishes out
the top five.

The Men's Peanut division saw Cody Sleeper take the early race lead in
the first heat race. Derek Cook used the inside lane to take the lead
away from Cody Sleeper and cruise to the heat race win. Josh Childs
and Ryan Ripley would go door to door in the second heat race. Childs
would take the lead on the outside and take the second heat race win.
Flagman, Buster Roy, catches the field sleeping. Ed Sleeper was paying
attention and jumps to the lead on the start. Ryan Ripley catches Ed
Sleeper and uses the inside groove to make the inside pass. Kyle
Gallant follows Ripley into second place. Tom Carter and Josh Childs
clear the field and challenge Gallant for second. Ripley is weaving
thru the lapped cars with ease. Childs clears Carter to take over the
second position. Ripley cruises to the win. Childs is able to hold off
the charging Carter for second. Carter, making his Unity debut, makes
a trip to victory lane for third. Gallant finishes a strong fourth.
Cody Sleeper finishes out the top five.

The Ladies division heat race saw a side by side battle between
Samantha Letourneu and Molly Feeney. Letourneau is able to power her
machine past Feeney for the heat race win. Kayla Robinson uses the
inside of the track to take the early race lead. Letourneau and Feeney
are again battling to take the lead. A spin by Feeney allows
Letourneau to pass Robinson for the lead. Feeney spins in turn two
bringing out the caution on lap 3. Letourneau is able to again take
the lead from Robinson on the restart. Chelsea Young, using the Teen
Thunder car of Ricky Palmer, moves in the third place position. Feeney
has recovered from her spin and moved into fourth. Robinson and Feeney
would race door to door. There cars would touch in turn four sending
both cars off the front stretch. This moves last years co-point
champion, Melissa Higgins, into third position. Letourneau has
increased her lead over Young. Letourneau continues her dominance with
another checkered flag. Young takes the second spot. Higgins shakes
her bad luck to take home her first trophy of the season. Mika Wilson
continues her string of top five finishes in fourth. Mary Reed makes
home her first top five finish of the season.

Brad Bellows and Donnie York fought for the lead in the Sportsman heat
race. A caution on lap 3 for the spinning Skip Conner allows Bellows
to jump to the lead on the restart and take home the win. Mark Dodge
takes his purple machine to the front in the feature. Caution flies on
lap 2 as Doug St Clair finds the turn 4 banking. Dodge and Brad
Bellows fight for the lead on the restart. Brian Robbins spins off the
track and onto the pit road access. Kris Huff looses control on the
front stretch and brings out the caution for both machines on lap 4.
Bellows again takes the lead over Dodge. Kris Watson has moved into
the third spot. John Kalel, II, sporting his new machine, fights for
fourth position with Donnie York. Caution flies again on lap 7 as
Kalel spins off the back stretch fighting for position with York.
Bellows takes the lead and never looks back to take the win. Dodge has
a fine run in second. York goes to victory lane with the third place
run. Kris Watson finishes a fine night in fourth. Bryan Robbins
recovers from his spin of the track to complete the top five.

The Late Model Pro 4 division had the largest field of the season this
race night. Steve Rackliff continued his winning ways by taking the
first heat race over Ben Clark. The second heat race saw Corey Walker
shake his bad luck ways by taking the lead. Bill Ellis cleared traffic
and tried to reel in the leading Walker. Time ran out, and Walker took
home his first checkered flag of the season. Walker continued his fine
run in the feature by jumping to the early race lead. Cary Davis,
piloting a damaged machine, followed Walker. Walker is driving away
from the field. Rackliff has the #94 machine on auto pilot cruising up
thru the field from his last place starting position. Rackliff is
fighting Reggie Bickford on lap 9 for fifth place. Bickford drifts
high allowing Rackliff and Jim Dennis to sneak by on the inside.
Rackliff put his sights on the third place car of Ben Clark. Rackliff
moves past Clark. Davis, sitting in second, has a rear view mirror
full of the Rackliff machine. Rackliff uses the inside groove to pass
Davis for second. Rackliff is gaining on the leading Walker. Rackliff
moves past Walker on the outside and drives away for the win. Walker
has a 2008 best finish in second. Davis limps his machine in third.
Clark had a strong finish in fourth. Dennis finished out the top five.

The Unity Variety & Video Wildcat division saw Mike Hodgkins return on
champions night and prove he can still drive. Hodgkins jumps to the
heat race lead and never looked back for the win. Carl McAlpine takes
the early race lead over Hodgkins. Tim Hudson follows the pair in
third. Dustin Hubbard and Troy Patterson battle for the fourth
position. McAlpine and Hodgkins race door to door. McAlpine is able to
use the outside lane to take the lead over Hodgkins. Hodgkins does not
give up easily keeping his bumper on the inside of the McAlpine for
many laps. McAlpine increases his lead over Hodgkins. Patterson and
Hubbard are having a battle for the fourth position. McAlpine cruises
to the line for another Wildcat division win. Hodgkins crosses the
line second, but does not pass post race inspection. Tim Hudson is
moved to the second position. Patterson beats Hubbard to the line for
third. Hal Stratton finishes out the top five.

The Geo & Sons Teen Thunder saw Ben Nile jump to a commanding lead in
the heat race. Problems with lapped traffic draws the field closer.
Nile is able to hold on for the heat race win. Ricky Palmer brings his
30 machine back from last weeks accident to jump to the early race
lead. Jordan Hawes fights back on the inside to take back the lead.
Caution on lap 2 for Ben Nile and Brandon Greenleaf allows Palmer to
jump back to the lead on the restart. Shelby Kimball is gaining on the
leaders in third. Jeremy Ludden has moved into the fourth position
from the rear of the field. Palmer is weaving thru traffic gaining on
the field. Caution would fly as Ben Nile has a problem with lapped
traffic and spins into the turn one banking. Kimball challenges Palmer
for the lead on the restart. Palmer would clear Kimball and take back
the lead. Ludden sneaks by Kimball to move into second. Ludden catches
Palmer and tries the inside for the lead. Palmer would not be denied
and takes the win. Ludden finishes a strong second. Nile would recover
from his spin for a third place finish. Kimball continued her top five
finishes in fourth. The 88 machine finished out the top five.

The Wicked Good Antique Racers joined the Fan Appreciation/Champions
night. Many of these cars have ties to the past champions that were in
attendance. It allowed memories to be shared with all. Joe Legere
again took the checkered flag in the Modified division. Travis Johns
was able to take advantage of the spin by Billy Boyle to take the win
in the Bomber class.

This week we will find out "What the Flying Fernald Will Jump This
Year". It is Race Your Neighbor Race #2. There will also be a fund
raiser for the Unity Food Bank. Hope to see you there.

SPEEDWAY 95 NEWS RELEASE August 23rd, 2008

By Bill DaButler

(Hermon, Me) Linnehan's Credit Now! Auto Company sponsored racing in
the big way this weekend at Speedway 95, giving away a 2005 Ford
Explorer valued at $10,000 to Ron Burns of Bangor, and tickets and pit
passes to the upcoming Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Speedway to
Mary Overlock of Hermon.

Linnehan's also sponsored a 50-lap race in the Super
Streets with $750 for the winner, and $250 for the runner up. With
$500 separating the top two spots, Shane Tatro of Dixmont put on quite
a show in his repeated attempts to wrestle the lead away from Kris
Watson of Hermon. The pair raced, often, side-by-side, but Watson held
that top spot for 49 of the 50 laps, losing the top spot briefly at
lap 48, and ultimately took the win. Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs
finished in the third spot. There were only 4 caution flags thrown.

2007 Defending champion Lewis Batchelder started the
season with an uphill battle to reclaim his championship for 2008 in
the Sport-Four division, but his late season charge has put him back
on top of the standings, and earned him the championship on the 3 race
series. Batchelder took the win in the final series race and edged out
Jason Trundy of Old Town at the checkered flag. With two races
remaining Batchelder leads Trundy in the overall standings by 13
points.

Brenton Parritt of Steuben picked up the win in the
Pro-Limited division over Shane Clark of Winterport. Clark managed to
hold on for the second place finish despite a run from Steuben's
Rowland Robinson, Jr. who dipped to the inside of Clark to try
unsuccessfully to pass. Robinson settled for a third place finish at
the checkered flag in the caution free race.

Jordan Pearson of Glenburn found himself at the front of
the field in Strictly Street field at lap 9 when it became a
three-wide battle for second, with Wayne Parritt, Jr. of Steuben, Brad
Norris of Ellsworth, and Jim Carr, Jr. of Clifton. Norris got loose,
and recovered, but the throttle stuck in Jim Carr's ride, forcing him
into the fence at turn four and drawing out the only caution. Parritt
earned the second spot, and Norris finished his night in third.

For the first time this season the 2007 Super Street
Champion, and current Sport-Four driver, Steve Moulton of Glenburn
joined the field in the Sport-Four race, and went on to take the win.
Point's leader Jordan Pearson of Glenburn took second, and Anthony
Moore of Brewer finished third. There were 4 caution flags thrown in
the race.

RJ Pinkham of North Anson picked up the win in both the
Maine Super Cup Racing League feature and heat race.

runner-up finish, Kobyluck expanded his points lead to 176 over Jesus
Hernandez (No. 11 DEI Chevrolet), who finished fourth in the race and

T.J. Brackett adds his name to Beech Ridge winner's list.

By Dan Walker

Scarborough,Maine- What do you get when you have a rain out for 2
consecutive weeks and a pit area full of hungry race car drivers? A
crash filled controversy filled night of racing that's what you get.
Not lost in all of the mayhem was T.J. Brackett winning his first ever
Pro Series race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. On Saturday night the
Pro Series main event started off with a 3 car crash in the back wall
before a single lap could be completed. Once that was cleared up
Steven Jones led the opening laps before yielding to Chris Smith on
the third lap.

Smith opened up a comfortable lead but slicing their way through
traffic was Brackett and Bobby Babb. With Smith well in front
Brackett moved to second place on lap 21 and began to chase down
Smith. The caution flag waved on lap 24 setting up the finish of the
race. Brackett went to the front with Babb chasing him as Smith was
shuffled to third place.

Brackett had a mirror full of Bobby Babb for the final 16 laps but
maintained his composure and took the win. Babb suffered a mechanical
problem on the final turn of the final lap allowing Smith to nip him
at the line for second place as Babb had to take third. Bub Bilodeau
and Bill Rodgers were fourth and fifth.

Bradley Babb was the Sport Series winner on Saturday night avoiding
several multi car crashes on his way to the win. Nate Leavitt led
early until Babb pulled alongside of him at lap 22 taking over the top
position. Leavitt made several attempts to regain the lead but Babb
was strong in taking the win over Leavitt and Corey Bubar who was
third. Frank Wear recovered nicely from an early race crash to finish
fourth and point leader sally Gherardi was fifth.

Lyman McKeage survived 6 caution flags to win the Wildcat main event
on Saturday night. Dan Bean led the first 24 laps before it all came
apart for him as McKeage took over at that point. Once in front
McKeage was home free in taking the win over Ron Corbeil and Shawn
Gilpatrick. Andy Ayers and Glen Reynolds rounded out the top 5
finishers in the crash filled race.

Dave Cameron was a first time winner in the 20 lap Road Runner
feature. Cameron took the lead at lap 3 and despite a heavy pack of
cars on his rear bumper, held off all comers to take the checkered
flag. Ray Dinsmore finished second with Dan Bernier third. Shawn
Brackett and Marc Sylvan were fourth and fifth

Karkos can't be stopped in Mini 100 rally; White celebrates first career Late Model win

Karkos can't be stopped in Mini 100 rally; White celebrates first
career Late Model win

OXFORD, Maine - Any spectators heading for the exits early in hopes of
beating the traffic Saturday night should learn a valuable lesson:
Never walk out on an Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Mini Stock feature
at Oxford Plains Speedway while Justin Karkos is still involved.
Karkos rallied from the rear of the field three times, regaining a
lost lap on one occasion, to pocket an improbable victory in the Time
Warner Cable/99.9 The Wolf 100.
Four different drivers led the race before Karkos scooted underneath
Steve Barker to take the top spot on lap 83.
It was the second time he passed Barker. Karkos also moved back onto
the tail of the lead lap by driving to Barker's low side just before
the fifth and final caution flag of the event on the 65th circuit.
Karkos initially charged from his 11th starting position to second
before a tangle with Shane Kaherl brought out the yellow flag and sent
the two leaders to the back on lap 31.
On the ensuing restart, Karkos was black-flagged for passing two cars
prior to the change from yellow to green conditions. That prompted a
stop-and-go penalty, which Karkos completed just as Barker breezed
past to assign him a one-lap deficit.
Once Kaherl's second spin of the night gave Karkos renewed life and
allowed him to catch the tail of the restart grid, it was a matter of
time before Barker fell into his clutch. Karkos drove around Ashley
Marshall, Kevin Bishop and Bill Childs Sr. all in the space of lap 70
to charge from fifth to second.
"That was heck of a run by Steve. I was pushing for the win as hard as
I could," Karkos said. "The temperature was up around 250 degrees.
(The engine) probably needs a complete rebuild now, but oh, well. It's
almost the end of the season."
Karkos now leads the Crazy Horse Racing Engines Winner's Circle
Challenge with a division-best six victories. His only previous OPS
win prior to this season came in a 100-lap Mini Stock main event in
May 2007.
Barker, who ended a six-year winless drought in his last start, stayed
within five car lengths to finish and wound up second. Bishop took
third to stay in the championship hunt, with point leader Marshall
fourth and Childs fifth.
Eight features highlighted a busy program before a hefty Fan
Appreciation Night crowd.
Jeff White shared the spotlight with Karkos, capturing his first win
in the Oxford Networks Late Model division. White won 12 Limited
Sportsman features at OPS between 1994 and 1998, but he had come up
empty in nearly a decade of competing in the speedway's headline
divisions.
"This is my first win since we lost my dad," said an emotional White.
"This is for him. I have the best damn pit crew anyone could ask for."
Tommy Ricker also matched a Late Model career best in second, followed
by Dennis Spencer Jr., Don Wentworth and champion/current point leader
Travis Adams.
Tommy Tompkins (Allen's Strictly Stock), Keith Landry (Chimney Tech
Outlaw), Brady Romano and Zach Audet (Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel),
Vanna Brackett (Allen's Ladies) and Jake Burns (Call of the Wild RV
Sport Truck) also went to victory lane.
Tompkins' win was his second straight and fifth overall, tops in the
class. Just as he did in the 100-lap event on August 9, Tompkins took
the lead from B.J. Chapman to deny the fellow second-generation OPS
competitor his breakthrough win.
Chapman held on for second in front of Skip Tripp, who is on the cusp
of his first speedway championship.
Romano, a crew member for Karkos, celebrated his first four-cylinder
Rebel victory in three years of trying.
The large Rebel field was split in half, setting the stage for Audet's
second triumph of the season in the high-point portion.
Landry outlasted a 29-car Outlaw field. Though Zach Bowie was six car
lengths back in second, it was more than enough to secure the Agren
Appliance Summer Showdown short-season title for the Acceleration
Series class.
Second was also sufficient for Dottie Patria to complete her sweep of
the Wednesday and Saturday Ladies titles. Brackett broke a tie with
Patria by scoring her seventh victory of the campaign.
Two-time champion Burns also snapped a tie with his teammate "Wild"
Bill Irving to stand alone in the Truck record book with his 11th
checkered flag of the season. Irving picked up 10 wins in his 2006
title run.
Championship Night for the Acceleration Series is this Wednesday,
August 27 at 6:30 p.m. Seven drivers remain alive for the Outlaw
title, with three contending for Rebel top honors.
Polly's Variety Championship Night for the Championship Series is
Saturday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Kobyluck Extends Point Lead With Runner-Up Finish At Mansfield

Mansfield, OH (August 23, 2008): Matt Kobyluck battled
back from an early-race flat tire to challenge for the win in the
Mansfield 150 NASCAR Camping World Series East race Saturday
afternoon, but settled with a runner-up finish after eventual
race-winner Brian Ickler held off the Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet on
the final green-white-checker restart. The finish was enough to extend
Kobyluck's point lead to 176 over Jesus Hernandez with only three
races remaining in the 2008 season.

"We had some bad luck early, but the guys in the pits did
a great job and kept us on the lead lap. We had a great car.
Unfortunately, I had to use up a little bit more of the right front to
get back to the front," Kobyluck said after the race. "Brian (Ickler)
had a little bit better of a car than we did. I gave it one last shot,
but big-picture wise there was no sense in my slicing and dicing it in
there."

Kobyluck started fourth and moved up to third on lap seven
after a brief three-wide battle. Kobyluck stayed a fixture in the
top-three until lap 34 when he suddenly fell off the pace. On his way
to the pits, the Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet spun in turn two and
brought out the caution.

"I felt it right as I was going back green. I couldn't
pull off because we were going green right then," Kobyluck said. "We
found a puncture in the tire so I must have run over some debris."

Kobyluck headed to the pits and the crew feverishly
changed the left rear tire and got him back on track without going a
lap down. He would, however, have to start at the tail of the field.
The team rose to the challenge. By halfway, Kobyluck was back in the
top-10, and by lap 100, he was in the top-five.

Patiently, Kobyluck put himself in a position to challenge
for the lead. On a restart at lap 125, Kobyluck outraced Ickler by a
nose at the start/finish line after an intense side-by-side battle. As
soon as he took the lead, the caution came back out and put the two
together once again for a restart at lap 134.

Again, the two put on a fierce battle with Ickler getting
the advantage at the line. On lap 141, Kobyluck went underneath Ickler
heading into turn three and the two made contact. Ickler got sideways
and Kobyluck let off the throttle allowing Ickler to keep the lead.

Caution tightened the duo up once again and extended the
race distance to allow for a green-white-checker finish. Ickler beat
Kobyluck off the restart and to the checkers by .370 seconds.

"It just wasn't our day. We had a good enough car to be in
victory lane, but Brian had a little bit better. He saved a little bit
at the end and I had used mine up a little bit coming back up through
after the tire," said Kobyluck. "This track is great and I always look
forward to coming here because it lends itself to a lot of
side-by-side racing."

An enhanced replay of the Mansfield 150 will be broadcast
on SPEED on September 12th at 1 PM ET.

Maine’s Glen Luce Knocking on the Door at Thunder Road’s Bond Auto Labor Day Classic

Maine's Glen Luce Knocking on the Door at Thunder Road's Bond Auto
Labor Day Classic

BARRE, VT – Glen Luce of Turner, ME is seemingly on the verge
of capturing his first-ever American-
Canadian Tour Late Model stock car victory. The 20-year racing
veteran is in his first full season of ACT
competition, and after a steep learning curve early in the year, feels
that he's ready to break into victory
lane. He wants to do it at the 30th Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200
at Barre, VT's Thunder Road Int'l Speedbowl
on Sunday, August 31.
"We're knocking on the door (of the first win); we've got a lot
of momentum," said Luce. "We hit on
something at Airborne, and we've been gaining confidence ever since.
We've been contenders almost everywhere, and
we've been shown a lot of respect on and off the track. It feels good."
Luce finished fourth at Airborne Speedway (NY) in May, then
posted finishes of fifth at his home track,
Oxford Plains (ME) Speedway in June and sixth at the most recent ACT
Late Model Tour event at White Mountain
Motorsports Park in New Hampshire last weekend. He currently ranks
eighth in the championship point standings
with his K&K Excavation/Glen Luce Trucking #7ME Chevrolet.
In between his ACT successes, Luce finished as the runner-up to
former Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick at
the prestigious TD Banknorth 250 at Oxford in July. He heads back to
Thunder Road with
"The Thunder Road regulars have an advantage at the Bond Auto
race, sort of like I have at Oxford,"
explained Luce. "Thunder Road is a hard track to get a hold on, but
200 laps is my kind of race. My driving
style has changed completely this year, and I love the long races.
I've run Thunder Road four times now and we
have some notes to fall back on. It would mean a lot to get my first
ACT win there in front of all those great
Vermont fans… And the money's good in that race, too, which doesn't hurt."
Luce will face a strong contingent – as many as 50 or more – at
the 30th Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200
on Sunday, August 31. Among the contenders are top championship point
drivers Scott Payea, Jean-Paul Cyr, and
Brent Dragon, all from Milton, VT, Montréal driver Patrick Laperle,
New Hampshire hotshoes Randy Potter and
Joey "Pole" Polewarczyk, and Thunder Road regulars Eric Williams, Cris
Michaud, Dave Pembroke, and Phil Scott.
John Donahue of Graniteville, VT won the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic
200 in 2007, and also has an ACT win at
Thunder Road this season.
Discount advance sale tickets are available at all 36 Bond Auto
Parts locations in Vermont, New Hampshire,
and Massachusetts, with a savings of $5 from the adult ticket front
gate price. General admission at the gate is
$25 for adults and just $5 for children (6-12). Practice for the ACT
Late Model Tour and local division
qualifying will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1:30pm, with

OPS - Eleven years after his last win, Sprague carries the checkers twice in one hour

Eleven years after his last win, Sprague carries the checkers twice in one hour

OXFORD, Maine - Eleven years had elapsed since Bill Sprague's only
Oxford Plains Speedway feature win prior to Wednesday night.
His next two victories unfolded in the space of less than an hour.
Sprague, who made his debut in the Oxford Acceleration Series less
than a month ago, backed up his Chimney Tech Outlaw win early in the
evening with a Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel triumph.
"I called Jeff Hebert a few weeks ago and asked if I could use his
(Rebel) car, because he wasn't driving it this year and I wanted to
get some racing in," said Sprague. "And now he's back with another
car."
In addition to his hot streak in the #85 Rebel, including two previous
runner-up finishes, Sprague has also been strong in the #65 Outlaw.
Sprague's previous win at Oxford came in the Allen's Coffee Flavored
Brandy Strictly Stock division in 1997. He also competed in the
Limited Sportsman class.
"Lucky for me, I was a given a chance to drive that car, also,"
Sprague said of the eight-cylinder ride. "This is awesome."
Sprague snagged the lead from Caesar Morgan on lap 11 of the Outlaw
encounter, then held off the spirited challenge of second-place Tom
Averill and John Leonard in third.
John Spencer Jr. and Chris Coolidge completed the top five.
Jonah Farrington and Ryan Philbrick led the third of four Rebel
features before Sprague seized command.
Fast-closing John Childs applied the pressure over the closing
circuits but settled for second. Philbrick held on for the third-place
trophy. Brian Nason's dismissal at the technical inspection shack
moved James Wood to fourth and Jay Dufour to fifth.
Eleven features were contested Wednesday, including the final three
make-up events from TD Banknorth 250 Weekend Presented By New England
Dodge Dealers. Two of the held-over races were Rebel events, with
another for the Call of the Wild RV Sport Trucks.
Three drivers clinched division championships with a week to spare.
Jake Burns has successfully defended his Call of the Wild RV Center
Sport Truck championship. Dottie Patria (Allen's Coffee Flavored
Brandy Ladies) and Jason Hannigan (Goulet Home Inspections Renegade)
sewed up the first titles of their career.
The chase in Chimney Tech Outlaw and Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebels
will go down to the wire, with multiple drivers in contention for both
when the checkered flag flies at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday, August 27.
The father-son tandem of David and Josh Childs maintained their
scorching late-season pace. David captured his seventh Outlaw win and
eighth overall at the speedway this season, while Josh extended his
Rebel winning streak to an amazing four with his seventh win.
Gregg Norton snapped Josh Childs' run by one spot in the high-point
Rebel nightcap. Cole Flagg also picked up a Rebel checkered flag.
Nik Coates notched his fifth Outlaw victory of the year between
Sprague and David Childs' conquests.
Opie Allard backed up his first career Truck win last week with a
second straight score. Ryan Farrar registered his first win of the
campaign in the second go-round for the pickups.
Vanna Brackett matched her successor as division champ, Patria, with
her sixth Ladies victory of the summer.
David Childs stormed to victory lane not long after watching Josh
continue his stunning August surge. Thom Bell set the pace for nine
laps before Childs took charge.
"I had to keep up with the kid and get my seventh," Childs said. "The
only way to the front is the outside unless you want to race dirty,
and I'm not like that."
Childs started seventh in the 19-car field. For the second week in a
row, 60 Outlaws were divided into three feature events.
Tyler Belanger hovered within four car lengths but couldn't erase
Childs' lead in the closing stages. Jerry Goss, Bell and Bubba Collins
completed the top five.
Ron Abbott Jr. will enter the championship event as the point leader
after crossing the stripe sixth ahead of closest rivals Addison Bowie
and Jim Drake.
Coates chased down Fred Clavet and completed his winning move to the
outside with seven laps remaining in the 'B' Outlaw feature.
"He raced me really clean. I've got to remember to thank him when I
get to tech," Coates said. "Five wins is the best season I've ever
had. Even though it's the worst points season I've ever had, I guess I
can't complain."
Clavet continued his skein of top-five finishes in second, followed
closely by Tim Hatch. John Patria and Kevin Lawrence gave chase.
Josh Childs' rally from 13th starting position in the Rebel 'A' makeup
ended with a lap 10 pass of Derek Cook for the lead.
"I got through a couple of wrecks where I don't know how I did it,"
said the high school student, who has won an astonishing 10 times over
the last 14 months.
Ben Krauter hopped into dad Martin's #82, started next-to-last and
wound up second. Troy Jordan was third, followed by Kyle Hewins in a
ride borrowed from Doug Degroat due to his own transmission troubles.
Archie Watt Jr. rounded out the lead quintet.
Cook's disqualification in the Rebel finale meant that the driver with
the most wins in series history officially ended the current hottest
driver's winning streak. Gregg Norton picked up his third victory of
the season and 22nd overall.
Childs, Hewins, Jamie Leavitt and Watt were next in line. Childs
unofficially leads Norton by two points and Hewins by 12 entering next
week's pivotal event. It would be the first OPS full-season
championship for any of the three drivers.
Flagg landed the lead from Bob Danforth in the Rebel opener and
breezed to the second win of his career.
"We've done nothing but fight the car all year long," said Flagg, who
led the final 11 laps. "Then as soon as we got it good, we got caught
up in another wreck and basically had to start over."
All was well this time around for Flagg, who held off Jeff Beaule on a
restart with three laps to go. Wood was third, with rookies Josh Brown
and Tyler Smith in tow.
Some drivers take years to notch their first win and need no time at
all to quickly pick up the second. Allard, last year's Lampron Energy
Rookie of the Year in Truck, showed the benefit of that confidence by
making it two straight in the 20-lap opener.
Farrar closed to Allard's tailgate in traffic as the white flag
appeared, but Allard held him off for the second straight week.
"Ryan was a lot faster than I was, but we managed to get out front
first," Allard said. "I made a mistake there and almost let him
underneath me."
Ten-time winner Burns was third ahead of top rookie Spurling and Devon Smith.
Marvin Hamilton's post-race DQ made a winner of Farrar for the first
time this season. Tom Libby advanced to a career-best second, and
Allard made it the first top three of the year without Burns in the
mix.
The champion rallied to fourth without the benefit of a caution after
a lap 1 spin. however. Spurling was fifth.
Brackett snuck past Debbie Marston on lap 9 and continued her
late-season push with another Ladies win.
"They were doing a little bit of wrecking around me," said Brackett.
"I don't know what happened."
Patria's drive to second was enough to secure the championship.
Kimberly Sessions, Cathy Manchester and Marston completed the paying
positions.
Reigning champion Heath stopped Hannigan's three-race Renegade winning
streak with his fifth win -- 18th in the last two seasons.
"With any luck, we'll be moving up to Outlaw next year if my wife will
let me," Heath said.
Phil Knowlton's car ran afoul of the tech inspectors, putting Craig
Bartlett a career-best second and Hannigan third. Mark Turner edged
Gerard Cote in a tough scrap for fourth.
OPS returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with Time Warner
Cable/99.9 The Wolf Fan Appreciation Night. Seven divisions will
compete on the card, with an autograph session, giveaways galore and
$5 adult admission prices (juniors free) part of the late-summer
celebration.
