snocross series
DERRY, NH (Mar. 20, 2009) - While most residents of the
northeast have had enough of winter and its associated chores, there
is a hearty group of power sports enthusiasts still ready for more fun
on the snow.
Members of that group will get one last chance to rev their
engines on March 28-29, as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) gets set for its
West series snocross finale at the beautiful Peek N' Peak Resort & Spa
in Findley Lake, New York. This race will complete the season for
Women and Semi-Pro racers, while Sport and Junior riders will conclude
their season in Windham, NY, the following weekend.
Spectator gates open at 8 a.m. each day, with racing getting
under way promptly at 9 a.m. Admission is just $12 per day for adults.
Children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paying
adult. Pit passes valid through the entire weekend will be available
for an extra $10.
Leading the charge into Findley Lake are Semi-Pro riders
Mitchell Sickler and Kyle Becker. Sickler, of Harvey's Lake, PA,
currently holds a 23-point advantage over Aaron Shelton in Semi-Pro
Open, while Becker, of West Hurley, NY, sits atop the Semi-Pro Stock
standings with a more comfortable 42-point margin over Sickler. Joey
Stock leads Andrew Bailey by 20 points in Semi-Pro 440, with Clinton
Ballou just 15 points behind Bailey in third.
In the most recent West series race in Stamford, NY, Becker
(Arctic Cat) held off a hard-charging Sickler (Ski-doo) for top honors
in Semi-Pro Open, while Bailey (Ski-doo) claimed third. Tim Randall
(Polaris), of Corinth, NY, led Becker and Pete Edwards (Polaris)
across the stripe in Semi-Pro Stock.
In Junior division action at Stamford, Jake Scott carried the
momentum forward from Epping, NH, to claim four more finals. The young
athlete from Port Jefferson, NY, won Saturday's Jr. 14-15 Stock 500
final, then capped another stellar weekend with wins in 14-15 Stock
500, 14-15 Stock 600 Fan and 16-17 Stock 500. Scott also won three
finals last Sunday in a Central series event in Barton, Vermont.
Last year at Peek N' Peak, former West series champion Kenny
Murphy, of Constantia, NY, swept the Pro division finals. In Semi-Pro
action, Lucas Brunelle, Corin Todd and Matt Herrmann all recorded
final round wins. Brunelle, of Boucherville, Quebec, out-gunned Josh
Duffy and David Duchnik in Stock 600; Todd, of Otego, NY, powered his
Ski-doo to victory over Duchnik and Duffy in the Open class; while
Herrmann took top honors over Danny Graves and Bobby Newman in Stock
440.
Conveniently located just a short drive from several major
interstate highways, the Peek N' Peak Resort & Spa is home to winter's
perfect playground. This multi-generational gathering place is ideal
for families and groups looking to enjoy the snow on and off the
slopes. Along with a host of restaurants, a ski school, indoor pool
and playground, the mountain offers 27 perfectly-groomed trails
serviced by eight lifts. Peek-n-Peak also features miles of
cross-country terrain for skiing and snowshoeing. To learn more, visit
