Lancaster, Bosworths win on Long John Saturday at Unity Raceway

Unity, Maine – Bryan Lancaster of Skowhegan and Cornville’s Bosworth brothers were top winners on the Saturday afternoon Long John racing card at Unity Raceway. Other victries were posted by Skowhegan’s Eddie Gilblair, Jr., Jamie Henderson of Litchfield, Kenny Robinson of East Machias, Tim Robinson of Clinton and Benton’s Samantha Letourneau.

Qualifying races were also held to set the field for Sunday’s three big main events, set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. Late Model heat races were won by Ed Drake of Vassalboro, Nick Hinckley of Wiscasset and Gary Thorne of Sidney.

Racin’ Paper Super Street heat winners were Nate Weston of Madison and Mike Landry of Oakland. The three Keystone Automotive Wildcat heat races went to Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington, Corey Morgan of Lewiston and Carl McAlpine of Burnham.

Lancaster prevailed in dominant fashion, leading all but a few brief seconds of the Uncle Henry’s Late Model Pro Four main event. Aaron Adams made his debut in the division aboard Corey Walker’s championship-winning racecar and finished in second position, with Jerry Robbins driving his newly-acquired mount to a fine third-place finish. Benton’s Alex fernald moved up from the Enduro division he championed this season to claim a fourth-place finish, with Brent Chase of Burnham ending up in fifth position.

Brad Bosworth of Cornville survived a last-lap charge by invader Kyle Hewins of Leeds to prevail in Aable Auto Parts Flyin’ 4 division competition. Auburn’s Jeff Hebert ended up with second-place hardware, with third position claimed by Hewins after rebounding from a late spin. Cole Robinsion of Clinton was fourth, followed by Kyle Treadwell of Auburn.

Jayson Bosworth of Cornville continued his late-season run of good fortune in the Geo & Sons Teen Thunder class with yet another feature event victory. Recent first-time winner Ricky Pease of Detroit was second under the checkered flag, with Emma Libby claiming a third-place finish in her first Unity Raceway appearance. Hermon’s Ryan Modery and Kyle Robinson of Clinton rounded out the top five.

Young Eddie Gilblair, Jr. of Skowhegan carried the checkered flag after a wire-to-wire win in a 15-lap invitational event for weekly Unity Raceway Wildcat competitors. The winner’s Father, Ed Gilblair of Skowhegan, finished in second position, just an inch or two ahead of Vassalboro’s Ed Sleeper.

Samantha Letourneau of Benton romped to victory in the Waterville Oaks Ladies division, easily outdistancing runner-up Christie Foster of Norridgewock and third-place finished Alica Goodwin of Clinton.

Tim Robinson of Clinton won the Enduro race after apparent victor Lance Chapman weas disqualified for technical infractions. Mickey Landry of Norridgewock ended up with asecond-place finish, with third-place hardware awarded to Kayla Allen of Bucksport. Daymon Dodge of Troy and Jamie Knight of Vassalboro rounded out the top ten.

Jamie Henderson of Litchfield made a late charge to the front to win Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association Late Model feature race. Wally Henderson of Litchfield was the runner-up, with George Cantwell of Hermon, Keith Smalley of Warren and Dick McPhail of Fairfield rounding out the top five.

Kenny Robinson of East Machias prevailed in the main event for Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association Outlaws, taking the lead away from Hermon’s Kris Watson on the final lap. Greg Veinote of Newburgh was third across the line, followed by Tim Reynolds of Bradley and Hermon’s Duane Dunifer.

Long John Sunday brings the curtain down on the 2010 season Sunday (October 10) at 1:00 p.m. Late Models race 100 laps, with 75-lappers on tap for Super Streets and Wildcats. Three other main events round out the card. For more information call (207) 453-2021 or visit unityraceway.info
