Travis (not Adams) wins OPS Late Model - Stearns' win with rebuilt ride is career first

OXFORD, Maine - There's a new Travis in town in the Oxford Networks
Late Model division at Oxford Plains Speedway.
One week after virtually destroying his ride in the track's top
division, Stearns brought the #85 back to the scary scene and
dominated the 40-lap main event on Oxford Federal Credit Union Night
for his first win in any class.
"Thank goodness Ricky Rolfe worked late this week," said Stearns,
"because he's the one who put it back together."
Rolfe also was the driver who chased Stearns to the line over the
second half of the event, settling for second. Carey Martin held on
for third over Travis Adams, the three-time and twice-defending
division champion who won the first two races of the championship
season.
Stearns' breakthrough capped a night of surprises at OPS.
Larry Emerson, the only three-time champion of the Allen's Coffee
Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock, lost the lead to current dominator
Skip Tripp. He found a way to gain it back, however, and held on for
his 35th official win at Oxford. Counting Enduro events, Emerson has
won at least one checkered flag in seven different divisions at the
speedway.
Tripp denied a strong challenge from visiting driver Dave Brannon to
claim third, followed by B.J. Chapman and Kenny Harrison.
Bill Childs Sr. spoiled Matt Moore's bid to become the second
first-time conqueror of the evening, making an outside pass for the
lead with seven laps remaining in a caution-free Allen's Mini Stock
sprint.
Rookie and division point leader Darrell Moore also moved around
unrelated Matt for runner-up honors. Bob Guptill was fourth for his
best finish of the season, chased across the stripe by Bill Irving.
Dottie Patria did manage to keep a streak alive, picking up her second
straight Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies win in the Agren
Appliance Saturday Showdown. Patria outlasted Christina Spaulding and
Lisa Vining on two late restarts.
Jim Archer was a runaway winner over Jerry Goss in the first of twin,
20-lap Chimney Tech Outlaw features. Nik Coates was tops in round two,
with Shannon Judd staving off Keith Landry for second.
Racing at OPS resumes next Saturday, May 31 with Sunoco Race Fuels
Night. Five divisions of racing see the green flag at 6:30 p.m.
