Varney, Stilphen fill plate with seconds in JARRacing Go Kart Series

Varney, Stilphen fill plate with seconds

OXFORD, Maine – Friday night was twice as nice for JARRacing
Photography Go Kart Series drivers Brandon Varney and Tommy Stilphen.
Varney and Stilphen achieved the rare feat of winning two features in
a single evening at Oxford Plains Speedway.
They achieved that status in different ways. Varney captured regularly
scheduled 20-lap features in two classes, Box Stock and Purple Plate.
Stilphen swept both halves of a Blue Plate doubleheader, winning both
a rained-out race from last week and the encore event.
In another highlight, Evan Beaulieu made it five straight weeks to
open the season with at least one first-time OPS kart winner. Beaulieu
added his name to that roster in the age 15-and-up Unrestricted ranks.
That division also had two main events thanks to last week's weather
interruption. Beaulieu ran second to Dan Pelletier Jr. in the opener.
Stephen Beattie bolted to his fourth consecutive victory in Star Champ
competition. Reigning Gold Plate champion Spencer Morse became the
first repeat winner of the season in that class, extending his series
point lead in the process.
Varney, the 2006 Box Stock champion and current point leader, pulled
off his third win in five starts in that go-round. Rookies Matthew
Mason and Chase Staples led early before Varney took command on a lap
10 restart.
Another first-year driver, Ethan Brown, improved upon last week's
first-ever podium finish with a second-place trophy. Brodie Morse
scooted around a last-lap collision to claim third in front of Staples
and Kyle Mooney.
In sweeping the heat and features for his first two classes, Varney
became a Purple Plate conqueror for the first time and ended champion
Evan Armington's three-race winning streak. Varney led all but the
first lap while Armington, Zachary Rich and Dylan Haskell diced it out
in a tremendous battle for second.
Rich ruled the runner-up battle over the closing laps. Haskell's
final-lap spin clinched third for Armington and fourth for rookie Owen
Poisson.
Varney's bid for his third and fourth wins of the night ended in solid
top-five runs in both halves of the Blue Plate double dip.
Stilphen charged brilliantly from the rear of the field in both
encounters, grabbing the top spot from Cody Chiasson on lap 10 of the
opener and getting the measure of Avery Spear with four to go in the
nightcap.
Spencer Thompson, Chiasson, Varney and 2007 champ Troy Davis completed
the top five in the make-up race. It was Spear, Chiasson, Davis and
Varney chasing Stilphen across the stripe in round two.
Morse and Josh Brown made their move around early dominator David
Blackwell on the final lap of the Gold scramble. Morse, a six-time
winner last season, held off Brown's bid for two wins in a row.
Blackwell held on for third with Brady Smith and Tyler King in tow.
Pelletier controlled the Unrestricted opener from wire-to-wire.
Beaulieu ascended from ninth to second. Jeff Lillibridge, Robbie
Wentworth and Jeff Roubo followed.
Lillibridge swapped the lead with Beaulieu after an early restart in
the nightcap, but Beaulieu reclaimed his perch on the next lap and set
sail. Pelletier made a bold inside move from fifth to third in the
closing circuits. Charlie Tyler and Kyle Metivier completed the lead
quintet.
Beattie blazed to an easy win in the Star Champ tangle, with son and
runner-up Stephen Beattie Jr. and championship rival Mike Ricker both
finishing two laps down due to spins and mechanical troubles,
respectively.

BILL WHORFF JR WINS COASTAL 200 AT WISCASSET RACEWAY

WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 5/25/08

Near perfect early summer weather greeted a large and eager crowd
at Maine's "Center of Speed" for the running of the annual Coastal 200
and Wiscasset Raceway's salute to the troops with Operation
Recognition. The program started with special opening ceremonies
honoring the men and women of the military and their famililies, plus
recognizining the efforts of Operation Recognition. When the dust
cleared and the marathon program ended, it was West Bath's Bill Whorff
Jr standing in victory lane holding the first place trophy and ready
to cash the $10,000 winner's check for winning the Coastal 200. Whorff
took advantage of a carefully thought out pit strategy and heavy
attrition in the early going to win the main event for the Smith
Construction Late Model Sportsman -- the biggest win of his racing
career and first ever at Wiscasset. "We decided before the race we
wanted to get to the 125 laps and let everyone else pit early, which
they did," Whorff said. "We needed to wait for the gas, to get the
rear weight percentage we wanted to get the car to go right." Whorff's
#10 AAA / Whorff Excavation Ford Taurus was one of only 2 cars to
finish on the lead lap of the race which took nearly 2 1/2 hours to
run and was marred by 19 caution periods. Darren Ripley of Appleton
finished 2nd and T.J. Watson of Harspwell was 3rd, one lap down, and
one of only 12 of 31 starters running at the finish. Watson was locked
in a great battle over the final 20 laps of the race with Joe Doiron
of Berwick and Josh St Clair of Liberty for the final spot in victory
lane. Doiron would finish 4th and St Clair 5th. Ricky Rolfe, Aaron
Ricker, Erik Nash, Chuck Colby and Scott Pooler completed the top ten.
Whorff not only worked the long Coastal 200, but he'd also put in well
over an hour in the Clark's Car Crushing Prostock feature earlier in
the afternoon. Twelve cautions thinned the field through the first 114
laps. Whorff pitted for the final time on lap 115 and had gobbled up
Ripley's straightaway lead in less than 10 laps. He passed him for the
point on lap 141. Ripley then rode around trying to protect 2nd place.
A caution flew on lap 186 -- and Ripley hit pit road for tires.
Problem was, the only tires he'd had left were old ones, taken off his
car when he mistakenly pitted on lap 54. His crew had made an
unfortunate miscalculation early in the race, thinking the number of
laps run was 82. "We pitted real, real early," Ripley said. "We made
that mistake that way, but we put the (first) tires on and that's all
we had." Whorff said he radioed in and knew that Ripley had old tires
on his car when he lined up outside of him on lap 185 and lap 196
restarts. "I really didn't worry," Whorff said. "I knew that they were
still 2 or 3-10ths slower than what we were running, even on new
tires. The car was just clicking along so well." Ripley was happy with
2nd, though, coming into this year driving for owner Bill Stilphen
after a 6-year absence from racing. "This was good," said Ripley, who
owned $4,000 for his runner-up spot. "I knew if I stayed out of
trouble -- no gambles -- we'd be OK. The car looks pretty good for 200
laps." Defending LMS champ Chris Thorne of Sidney, a prerace favorite
to win the Coastal 200 had his share of the lead early in the race,
leading from lap 8 through lap 31 when he was forced to the pits for a
flat tire. He would work his way back to the front and retake the lead
from Whorff on lap 81. Just 16 laps later Thorne would drop out of the
race with rearend problems. Race leaders included polesitter Bill
Childs Jr, Eddie McDonald, Thorne, Ripley and Whorff.

In support action on the afternoon, 6-time track champ Maurice
Young of Windsor continued his dominance in extra distance races for
the Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets. Young took the lead on lap 6
and covered the final 44 on the way to the win in the $500 to win 50
lap qualifier. With the win, Young locks himself into the starting
grid for the 100 lap Street Stock Nationals at Wiscasset Raceway as
part of Ray Haskell Ford "Fall Brawl" weekend October 4th and 5th.
Durham's Larry Emerson finished a distant second and Steve Peirpont of
Cushing took 3rd. Lisbon's Dave Brannon gave Young his toughest
challenge, chasing the leader within a car length from lap 12 through
28 when he dropped out with mechanical problems. "Big" John Phippen of
Bar Harbor picked up the win in the 40 lap feature for the Clark's Car
Crushing Prostocks. Phippen took over the lead following a lap 34
restart which involved the lead pair of Bill Whorff and Tim Turner.
Jesse Smith ran his best race at Wiscasset, picking up the 2nd place
trophy after a run up from 18th. Freedom's Randy Turner took over the
point lead in Wiscasset's top division with his 3rd place finish.
Oakland's Mike Landry won a caution filled 30 lap feature for the
Unicel / Budweiser Super Streets. For Landry, a former champ at
Beechridge, it was his first win at Wiscasset. Shawn Austin of
Norridgewock backed up his first career win from the previous week
with a run from 13th to finish 2nd. Bryan Fortin of South China
started 4th and shook of some early race troubles to race his way back
up through the field to finish 3rd. In the 25 lap feature for the
Aable Auto Part Mini Stocks, point leader Mac Hannan made quick work
of the field of cars, moving up from 19th to the lead by the halfway
marker. From there, he drove to his first mini stock win since his
championship season of 2002. Dylan Lancaster of Skowhegan started 18th
and notched his third straight podium finish in 2nd. 2-time Ministock
champ Shawn Kimball filled out the top three. Barry Poulin picked up
his 2nd win of the season in the 20 lap feature for the White &
Bradstreet Mini Trucks. Poulin was the opening day winner. In Sunday's
program he was joined in victory lane by week two winner Jason Giggey
of Unity and Kevin Oliver of Gray.

Wiscasset Raceway returns to action Saturday May 31st at 2:00pm
with a full program sponsored by Harold C. Ralph Chevrolet of
Waldoboro. All six weekly racing series divisions will be in action
with regular length heats and features on the schedule. For more

RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 5/25/08

BILL WHORFF JR WINS COASTAL 200 AT WISCASSET RACEWAY

For more

SPEEDWAY 95 NEWS RELEASE May 18th, 2008

By Bill DaButler

(Hermon, Me) Memorial Day weekend action went almost caution-free for
all but the Sport-Four Division at Maine's Family Fun Track, Speedway
95. The Sport-Four 35-lap race, the first of their three race series
pulled a triple duty for the field, with points for the division,
points for the series, and a guaranteed starting spot for the winner
in the 4-Cyl National race on June 27th at Beechridge.

There were 7 caution flags thrown in the 35-lap Sport-Four
race, but when the dust settled, Mike Hopkins of Hermon emerged the
winner. David Green of Hampden out muscled pole sitter Phil Richardson
for the second spot in the closing laps. Richardson, who comes from
Carmel, ended the night in third. In victory lane, Hopkins said, "This
car is like an old rubber band, it starts out loose, and it takes a
couple of laps to snap into place."

The Pro-Limited division suffered the only caution of the other
feature races, when leader Dale Swoboda of Hermon lost his
transmission, literally. The tranny went in dramatic fashion in turn
four ten laps into the feature. Point's leader Glen Curtis, Jr. took
over the top spot, but was DQ-ed in post race inspection, handing the
win over to Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs. Brenton Parritt of
Stueben was upgraded to second, with Scott Modery inheriting third.

Super Streets were caution-free, and continued the streak of Hermon's
Kris Watson. To date, Watson has won ever race, heats, and features in
the Super Street division in the 2008 season. Travis Beal of
Winterport in his third start of the season took second, but was DQ-ed
in the tech garage, moving Artie McGuire of Bucksport up to the second
spot, and Doug Sinclair from Hermon to third.

Glenburn's Jordan Pearson dominated the Strictly Streets with Rookie,
Wayne Parritt, Jr. of Steuben behind him by less than 2 car-lengths at
the checkered flag. Ellsworth resident Brad Norris finished third,
nearly half a lap behind the top two drivers in the caution-free
affair.

Although Jordan Pearson had a strong ride in the Full Size Trucks, it
drifted back from a challenge for the lead in the closing laps, to a
third place finish at the checkers. Peter Drake of Holden recovered
from a fifth place finish in the heat to take the feature win, with
heat race winner Ernie "Big Ern" Wallace of Winterport second in the
caution free event.

Clyde Hennessey brews up a winning recipe in Budweiser 100 at Beech Ridge.

By Dan Walker

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway release

Scarborough, Maine-The annual Budweiser 100 for the NASCAR Sport
Series took place on Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, and
when the dust settled Clyde Hennessey stood in victory lane.
Hennessey had to survive 12 caution flags and several strong
competitors before securing the win. Travis Buzzell led the field to
the green flag and bolted to the lead with Reggie Leeman hot in
pursuit. Buzzell would lead the opening 10 laps before Leeman went in
front leading the field to the 3rd caution flag on lap 11.

When racing resumed Leeman and Russ Morse staged a very entertaining
battle for the lead swapping the top spot several times over the next
10 laps as they raced side by side until the caution waved again at
lap 20.

Things remained the same as Leeman and Morse continued their side by
side duel to lap 42 when a new player arrived on the scene in Clyde
Hennessey. The field took the green flag on lap 43 following a quick
caution period and Morse took Leeman a little high on the backstretch
allowing Hennessey to shoot to the inside of both leaders and come out
of turn 4 with the lead.

Once Hennessey had the lead nobody got close enough to challenge him
for the position despite 6 more caution flags as he cruised to the win
by about 4 car lengths. Leeman was second and Bradley Babb who in
only his fourth start in a Sport Series car was third as he raced with
the lead cars all race long. Russ Morse finished fourth with Sally
Gherardi taking the fifth place position.

Bub Bilodeau put another win together in the Pro Series as he out
dueled Bobby Babb for the win. Rookie contender Chris Smith was
leading the race to lap 21 when Bilodeau and Babb who represent 7
track championships, took aim at the rookie. Just as Babb and
Bilodeau were about to challenge Smith the motor let go in his #10
racer handing the lead to Bilodeau who had to fend off several
attempts from Babb for the win.

Third place honors on this night went to Tim Brackett who appears to
be getting closer to taking that first Beech Ridge win and fourth was
Aaron Ricker. T.J. Brackett rounded out the top 5 place finishers in
the 40 lap event. Buddy Poole laid an old fashioned whooping on the
Wildcat division Saturday night as he took the lead from Richard
Randall on lap 24 and pulled away for an easy win. Ron Corbeil
finished second with Randy Snow third. David Wildes and Glenn
Bradbury were fourth and fifth at the finish.

David Palmer was a first time winner in the entry level Road Runner
division leading the final 15 laps for the win. Shawn Brackett was
second with Marc Sylvain third. Mark Hill and Mark Boutin filled the
fourth and fifth place positions.

PASS North: Ben Rowe’s the King of White Mountain

Patience won out on a short track Saturday night filled with hard
racing at White Mountain Motorsports Park. Ben Rowe was able to
preserve his equipment and make a lap 114 outside charge on Cassius
Clark to win the 150 lap Pro All Stars Series (PASS) feature. The
victory was Rowe's eighth at the Avery family's high banked quarter
mile. John Flemming, Mike Rowe, and Richie Dearborn completed the top
five.

The drop of the green flag set the tone for the night with the number
8 E.J. Prescott Ford of Cassius Clark battling side by side with the
Trevor Sanborn's Richard Moody and Sons Ford early on. Sanborn would
eventually settle in behind Clark but a lap 51 restart gave Sanborn
enough momentum on the outside to steal the lead away from Clark.
Clark reclaimed the top spot on a lap 73 restart with Sanborn, Ben
Rowe, Johnny Clark, Flemming and Derek Ramstrom giving chase as the
race approached half-way.

Lapped traffic proved to be a challenge all race long as Clark and
Sanborn resumed their battle. Sanborn's shot at the win would end on
lap 103 after he got into the lapped car of Steve Berry. The move
prompted Berry to retaliate, spinning Sanborn into the front stretch
wall and ending Berry's night via the black flag. Sanborn continued on
after repairs to finish twelfth.

The restart placed the four time PASS champ outside of Clark and Rowe
continued where his teammate Sanborn left off, racing side by side
with Clark until he made his lap 114 pass stick for his first victory
of 2008. Other big movers of the night were last week's Ray Haskell
Ford 125 winner Johnny Clark and rookie DJ Shaw who both overcame
penalties early in the race to score top tens.

Johnny Clark, Cassius Clark and Trevor Sanborn won their respective heat races.

The PASS North super late models return to action on Sunday June 15th
at Wiscasset Raceway for the Steel's Real Rod and Customs 125. Visit

Travis (not Adams) wins OPS Late Model - Stearns' win with rebuilt ride is career first

OXFORD, Maine - There's a new Travis in town in the Oxford Networks
Late Model division at Oxford Plains Speedway.
One week after virtually destroying his ride in the track's top
division, Stearns brought the #85 back to the scary scene and
dominated the 40-lap main event on Oxford Federal Credit Union Night
for his first win in any class.
"Thank goodness Ricky Rolfe worked late this week," said Stearns,
"because he's the one who put it back together."
Rolfe also was the driver who chased Stearns to the line over the
second half of the event, settling for second. Carey Martin held on
for third over Travis Adams, the three-time and twice-defending
division champion who won the first two races of the championship
season.
Stearns' breakthrough capped a night of surprises at OPS.
Larry Emerson, the only three-time champion of the Allen's Coffee
Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock, lost the lead to current dominator
Skip Tripp. He found a way to gain it back, however, and held on for
his 35th official win at Oxford. Counting Enduro events, Emerson has
won at least one checkered flag in seven different divisions at the
speedway.
Tripp denied a strong challenge from visiting driver Dave Brannon to
claim third, followed by B.J. Chapman and Kenny Harrison.
Bill Childs Sr. spoiled Matt Moore's bid to become the second
first-time conqueror of the evening, making an outside pass for the
lead with seven laps remaining in a caution-free Allen's Mini Stock
sprint.
Rookie and division point leader Darrell Moore also moved around
unrelated Matt for runner-up honors. Bob Guptill was fourth for his
best finish of the season, chased across the stripe by Bill Irving.
Dottie Patria did manage to keep a streak alive, picking up her second
straight Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies win in the Agren
Appliance Saturday Showdown. Patria outlasted Christina Spaulding and
Lisa Vining on two late restarts.
Jim Archer was a runaway winner over Jerry Goss in the first of twin,
20-lap Chimney Tech Outlaw features. Nik Coates was tops in round two,
with Shannon Judd staving off Keith Landry for second.
Racing at OPS resumes next Saturday, May 31 with Sunoco Race Fuels
Night. Five divisions of racing see the green flag at 6:30 p.m.

Steve Carrier and Frank Wear take top honors at Beech Ridge.

Scarborough, Maine- The NASCAR Whelan All American Series returned to
Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday night and when the fast paced
show was over Steve Carrier and Frank Wear took top division feature
race victories.

Joining Carrier and Wear in victory lane on this night were Gary
Babineau in the Wildcat division and Trevor Graffam in the Road
Runners.

Shawn Twomey paced the field of Pro Series drivers to the green flag
as he led the opening 9 laps of the race. Steve Carrier made his move
for the lead on the next circuit to take over the top spot and began
to open up a comfortable lead.

The remainder of the race was clean with no cautions allowing Carrier
to secure the relatively easy win over Bub Bilodeau who was second.
Bobby Babb, Twomey and David Oliver completed the top five positions
following the 40 lap run.

The caution filled Sport Series main event was up next and after
Travis Buzzell and Dave Lampron spent the first 7 laps taking turns as
the leader, Lampron finally assumed the lead spot. The second of 7
caution flags waved on lap 17 allowing Frank Wear to move into
contention with the leaders.

Lampron and Wear would spent the next 5 laps and 3 caution flags in a
side by side duel for the lead until Wear was able to complete the
pass at lap 24. After 2 more caution flags the checkered finally
waved over Wear for the victory with Clyde Hennessey crossing the
finish line second but he received a 2 position penalty for jumping to
the outside of the car in front of him during a single file restart.

This penalty moved Bobby Nadeau to second and Reggie Leeman to third
with Hennessey getting credit for fourth. Travis Buzzell was awarded
fifth after Dave Lampron was assessed the same penalty as Hennessey
for his infraction during the final restart.

Gary Babineau led from start to finish to take the Wildcat feature
race win which was run just the opposite as last weeks race as this
week there were no caution flags in the 30 lap event. Babineau opened
up a big lead during the early laps but once Lyman McKeage cleared
traffic he started to close the gap.

Babineau had more than enough left in the car as he took the win over
McKeage and Ron Corbeil. Scott Grant and David Wildes rounded out the
top 5 positions following the checkered flag.

The Road Runner feature race found Trevor Graffam in victory lane for
the entry level division following 20 laps of competition. Dan
Bernier led the first 4 laps until Graffam made a 3 wide pass for the
lead. Once in front Graffam held off Ed Pierce and Shawn Brackett
for the win. Mark Hill and David Palmer filled the fourth and fifth
spots.

PASS North: Johnny Clark is still the master of Wiscasset

Naples ME (May 18, 2008) Two time Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
Champion Johnny Clark led all but lap one of the Ray Haskell Ford 125
Sunday afternoon to record his first PASS victory of 2008. The
Hallowell Maine ace continued his dominance at the coastal oval where
he's been a winner in three of the past four PASS sanctioned super
late model events. Travis Benjamin gave Clark all he could handle
though, looking for a way around and under Clark for nearly 100 laps.
Benjamin had to settle for second by less than a car length at the
checkers. Ben Rowe had a solid run in third, with Cassius Clark and
Adam Bates completing the top five. Rookie D.J. Shaw s' sixth place
finish was his best PASS result to date; Kelly Moore, Scott Chubbuck,
Richie Dearborn and Steve Berry rounded out the top ten. Johnny Clark,
Ben Rowe, and Ritchie Dearborn were heat race winners. The race was
slowed by nine caution flags. Twenty of the twenty three starters were
running at the finish.

In PASS Mod action Kenny Harrison jumped out front from the pole
position and ran away from the field early in the going, but several
cautions brought him back to the rest of the field. Mark Lucas was
charging through the field from his tenth starting spot to put the
heat on Harrison. Lucas used the outside groove to make his move on
lap 36 of the 40 lap race to score his third PASS Mod victory in a
row. Harrison held on to the runner up spot with Tom Oliver across the
stripe third. Ronald Gooden Jr. and Bill Dixon completed the top five.
Harrison and Tom Oliver earned the heat race wins.

Ickler Tops Camping World Series Field At Iowa

NEWTON, Iowa - Brian Ickler packed his bags in December and moved to
North Carolina, starting from scratch in the hub of NASCAR in an
effort to further his career.

The payoff for the 22-year-old Ickler came Sunday when he drove his
family-owned No. 15 Ickler Motorsports Chevrolet to Victory Lane in
the US Cellular 200 at Iowa Speedway. To get there, Ickler had to
out-race a field full of some of the top up-and-coming drivers in the
NASCAR Camping World Series, as well as NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kasey
Kahne – less than 24-hours removed from his own victory in the NASCAR
Sprint All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

"I really love it for all the guys," Ickler said. "We started in
December with nothing. We built three cars, we tested, we came out
here and tested. I'm just so proud of those guys and how much effort
they put in. They still have families, and they're at the shop until
eight o'clock at night – just working so hard. It's a huge reward and
payoff for them."

Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Marc Davis (No. 18 Slim Jim
Toyota) finished second, holding off a late charge from Kahne (No. 9
Budweiser Dodge). The Dale Earnhardt Inc. trio of Trevor Bayne,
Jeffrey Earnhardt and Jesus Hernandez finished fourth through sixth,
respectively.

Eighteen-year-old Austin Dillon, Richard Childress' grandson, won his
first Coors Light Pole Award in his second career start and finished
seventh. Steve Park, Matt Kobyluck and Jim Inglebright rounded out the
top 10. Inglebright was the top NASCAR Camping World Series West
finisher.

Ickler ran in the NASCAR Camping World Series West the last two
seasons and won three times. This year, he his running a full season
in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. Sunday's race is the only
time the two series, which represent the top developmental step for
NASCAR's regional touring series, meet during the season with points
on the line.

The series also meet in January in the postseason NASCAR Toyota
All-Star Showdown, a postseason, non-points event.

"We've run great at the Showdown – we've always come up short," said
Ickler. "But today it paid off. This was definitely the biggest win
for us."

Kahne led twice for 32 laps.

"It was fun," Kahne said. "I'm glad we came here, I'm glad we raced. I
didn't get a whole lot of sleep, but that's alright, I can handle it.
We won last night, so it feels good today. We did all we could and
third was the best we were going to do today."

Davis, whose JGR teammate Joey Logano won the race last year, led the
most laps at 57. There were 13 lead changes among eight drivers.

Davis took the lead for the third time on lap 141 and, as the race
went green for the final 43 laps, slowly built a lead only to see it
erased by Ickler. Ickler bobbled briefly after contact with Davis
coming out of turn 2 on lap 177. Ickler fell back several car lengths,
regrouped and resumed pursuit.

"I knew he was coming and I was trying to hold him off," Davis said.
"When he got there, I gave him a heck of a fight. We tried, but it was
going to happen eventually."

Once he got past Davis, Ickler stretched the lead and eventually won
by 1.254 seconds.

Davis took over the NASCAR Camping World Series East points lead by 14
over Dillon and 44 over Ickler. Mike David, who finished 16th overall
but fourth among NASCAR Camping World Series West, maintained his
series points lead by 50 over Eric Holmes. In Sunday's combination
event, drivers received points in relation to other drivers in their
own series.

Wiscasset - JOHNNY CLARK AND CHRIS THORNE ARE BIG WINNERS IN WISCASSET RACEWAY DOUBLE HEADER

WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 5/18/08

JOHNNY CLARK AND CHRIS THORNE ARE BIG WINNERS IN WISCASSET RACEWAY DOUBLE HEADER

Johnny Clark gave a stellar repeat performance Sunday afternoon at
Wiscasset Raceway on his way to a wire to wire win, a big paycheck and
an extra bonus in the process. Clark, the opening day winner at
Wiscasset just a week earlier, held off a late race charge from Travis
Benjamin in the closing laps to win the Ray Haskell Ford 125 for the
Pro All Stars Series by just a half car length. The win was Clark's
first of the year in the PASS tour but his 5th win in his last six
trips to the Center of Speed going back through the 2007 season. For
the second week in a row Benjamin was the only driver to challenge
Clark's dominance and he continually hounded the leader throughout the
second half of the race. But with the race slowed by nine cautions,
Benjamin was never able to settle into a long green flag run that his
car needed. 5-time PASS North champ Ben Rowe held 3rd throughout much
of the race and joined the pair in victory lane. Adam Baits and DJ
Shaw filled out the top five. With the win Clark guaranteed himself a
starting position in the $30,000 to win N.E. Toyota Tundra 250 on
August 17th. Sunday's Ray Haskell Ford 125 highlighted day two of a
doubleheader weekend at Maine's fastest track. In other action on the
afternoon Mark Lucas of Harpswell took the lead from Pownal's Kenny
Harrison with five laps to go and drove away to the win in the 40 lap
PASS Modified feature. They were joined in victory lane by Tom Oliver.
Wiscasset's White & Bradstreet Mini Trucks filled out Sunday's program
with Don Giggey of Athens taking the 15 lap feature with Kevin Oliver
of Gray and James Swan III joining him in victory lane. A complete
rundown of Sunday's PASS action and official finishing order can be
found on the PASS website at www.racewithpass.com.

On the Saturday afternoon program, Sidney's Chris Thorne outlasted
a trio of contenders to pick up an exciting win in the annual Bruce
Kane Memorial for the Smith Construction Late Model Sportsman class.
Thorne took the lead from Daren Ripley following a lap 7 restart and
then traded the lead back and forth with Steve Reny over the second
half of the race to take the 30 lap feature. It was his first win of
the season and second straight year he has won the race that honors
#68 Bruce Kane who lost his life in a racing accident at Wiscasset in
the early 90's. Both Thorne and Reny said that their cars we too loose
to keep on the bottom groove which led to the multiple lead changes.
Oxford Plains regular Ricky Rolfe came down to Wiscasset for a test
run leading up to the Coastal 200 and the trip paid off with a run
from the back of the field to finish 3rd. He took the position from
Ripley on the final turn of the race. In support action Shawn Austin
of Norridgewock took advantage of an early race caution involving the
leaders and then ran away to pick up his first career win in the 25
lap Unicel Super Street feature. Nate Weston worked the traffic to
move into 2nd but wasn't able to chase down Austin who took the win by
a half straightaway. R.J. Austin snuck by Mike Landry on the final
turn of the race to join his younger brother in victory lane and pick
up the 3rd place trophy. 5-time Keystone Automotive Strictly Street
champ Maurice Young of Chelsea rebounded from a dissapointing 14th
place finish on opening day to lead the 20 lap Strictly feature wire
to wire for the win. Steve Peirpont of Cushing was the only driver to
keep Young in his sights and would follow the defending champ for the
2nd place finish. Jeff Merrill of Mexico withstood a great race-long
battle with former champ Dave Brannon to take the final spot in
victory lane. In the 20 lap feature for the Aable Auto Parts Mini
Stocks Readfield's Pete McCollet picked up his first win since 2005.
Mac Hannan Jr of Union and Dylan Lancaster of Skowhegan took the 2nd
and 3rd place trophies for the second straight week. Hannan took the
lead from McCollet on lap 16 but Pete retook the lead a lap later when
Hannan got caught behind a lapped car. Jason Giggy of Unity used a
late race pick to grab the lead from Opie Allard to pick up the win in
the 15 lap feature for the White & Bradstreet Mini Trucks. James Swan
III took 3rd. With the Clark Car Crushing Prostocks taking Saturday
off, the NELCAR Legends filled their spot on the program. Max Zachem
of Preston, CT turned in a dominating run to secure his first
Wiscasset win. Bob Weymouth of Topsham made it up to 2nd but wasn't
able to chase down the winner. Charlie Buxton of Windham filled out
the top three in victory lane.

Wiscasset Raceway returns to action Sunday May 25th at 1:00pm for
the annual Coastal 200 presented by Operation Recognition. All six
weekly racing series divisions will be in action for this special show
highlighted by the $10,000 to win main event for the Smith
Construction Late Models and a 50 lap qualifier for the Keystone
Automotive Strictly Streets with drivers racing for $500 to win and a
starting spot in the 100 lap Street Stock Nationals at Wiscasset
October 4th and 5th. Sunday's show will begin at 1:00pm with special
ceremonies to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend including
presentations by special guest dignitaries and members of Operation
Recognition who will honor our military men and women serving our

SPEEDWAY 95 NEWS RELEASE May 18th, 2008

By Bill DaButler

(Hermon, Me) It was caution free for the heats, but not so for the
features this weekend at Maine's Family Fun Track Speedway 95. While
most of the divisions were free of incident, the Sport-Four division
gave the yellow flag a workout.

The Strictly Street division completed its first 35-lap
race of the Coca Cola Strictly three race series, with Jordan Pearson
earning another win this season. Pearson, who also won the Full Size
Truck race worked hard to hold off rookie Wayne Parritt, Jr. of
Steuben. Brad Norris of Ellsworth took third in the caution-free
affair.

There was only one caution in the Dysart's Pro-Limited
race, and it was due to a mechanical failure, believed to be in the
distributor of Steuben's Rowland Robinson, Jr. Duane Seekins of
Stockton Springs and Brenton Parritt of Steuben kept the race close
but ultimately Parritt ran out of laps to get by Seekins, and settled
or second. Bernie Thayer of Hermon finished second.

Kris Watson of Hermon continued his streak of winning
every race, including heats this season, by taking the led away from
Mike Overlock of Franklin. Overlock stayed at the front though, to
finish second, with Artie McGuire, Jr. of Bucksport finishing third in
the caution-free race.

There were five cautions, and a false start in the
Sport-Fours, a roll over, a head on collision, and three drivers
receiving blacks flags, and two-week suspensions for on track
behavior. Adam Russell of Hermon easily took the win, but was
disqualified in the post race inspection moving David Green from
Hampden to the front of the finishing order. Spencer Garvin of
Searsport was upgraded to a second place finish, and Steve Moulton, a
former Super Street champion out of Glenburn to third.

In the caution-free Full Size Truck race, Jordan Pearson
added another checkered flag to his collection, by picking up the win
Ernie Wallace, Jr. of Winterport finished second, with Peter Drake of
Holden in the third spot.

Francis Bernard of Howland picked up his second win in two weeks the
win in the Maine Supercup Racing League event.
