RMR Snocross News: 2008-09 Season Preview

Rock Maple Racing getting revved up for 2008-09 snocross season,
Presented by the New England Dodge Dealers

DERRY, N.H. (Oct. 8, 2008) - As the first frost and freeze
advisories are issued across northern New England, thoughts turn to
fall chores, apple pie and the upcoming snowmobile season.
Throughout the region, snowmobile clubs are planning work days
to prepare their trail systems for another season. At the same time,
officials from Rock Maple Racing (RMR) are shifting into high gear as
they make final preparations for the 2008-09 snocross season.
Nine points races are locked in for RMR's premier Central
series, kicking off for the second straight year at the beautiful
Whaleback Mountain ski area in Enfield, N.H., on Dec. 6-7. Central
series teams will return to scenic western Maine for Round 2, invading
the friendly confines of Black Mountain in Rumford on Dec. 13-14.
Ever since Rock Maple made its debut there in January of 2004,
fans in Malone, New York, have turned out by the thousands to watch
snocross. Round 3 on the 2008-09 schedule will take place at the
Franklin County Fairgrounds on Jan. 3-4, 2009, and another
enthusiastic crowd is expected.
Central Series Pro and Semi-Pro teams will participate in the
West Series opener on Jan. 17-18, as racers converge on the
challenging Pit-X track in Verona, New York. The next stop on the
Central tour is creating quite a buzz among snocross racers and fans.
On Jan. 24-25, RMR will unleash its high-flying brand of excitement on
the grounds of historic New England Dragway, in Epping, New Hampshire.
Last summer, RMR sanctioned the first ATV races on land owned
by the dragway in an exciting points race for the Can-Am Series. Now,
for the first time, a world-class winter-time motorsports event will
take place on these hallowed grounds. Thanks to a first-class
facility, easy access by highway and a reputation for excellence, New
England Dragway will make the ideal host site for RMR snocross.
Following RMR's debut in Epping, February 7-8 will see a visit
to Stamford, New York, for Round 2 on the West tour and a points race
for Central Pro and Semi-Pro classes. On Feb. 14-15, some of Rock
Maple's teams will choose to race at the Amsoil Championship Snocross
Series event in Farmington, N.Y., while others might enjoy a little
trail riding on an off weekend.
Round 7 for Central teams has them returning to what has become
a favorite stop in the Granite State of New Hampshire. RMR will return
to the old Mount Whittier ski area in West Ossipee, N.H., on Feb.
21-22. Ironically, this site is close to where the first "Snowmobile
Conversion Kits" for Model T Fords were built and sold by Virgil White
in the 1920s. Everyone in the greater Ossipee area has extended a warm
welcome to RMR since day one, and fans turn out in big numbers (by car
and on their sleds) to catch the excitement.
Another popular host site on the Central series schedule sits
deep in the heart of snowmobile country. The Orleans County
Fairgrounds in Barton, Vermont, has been a mainstay for years, with
ample snowfall, strong support from the community and plenty of
enthusiastic fans. If Vermont's famed Northeast Kingdom receives the
same amount of snow it got last winter, the track for Round 8 on Mar.
14-15 should be world-class.
West series teams will hit their throttles once again on Mar.
28-29, as they converge at the beautiful Peek N' Peak Ski Resort in
Findley Lake, New York. This fine resort offers the best of both
worlds - ample snow for a great track and first-class amenities for
visitors. Everyone at RMR looks forward to their return visit to Peek
N' Peak.
Windham Mountain is another of the finer facilities on the
entire Rock Maple circuit. After a long, grueling schedule, Central
series teams will decide their 2009 class championships at Windham on
April 4-5, while West series Junior and Sport division riders will
complete their season. It's expected to be an exciting wrap-up to what
should be another competitive season.
Rock Maple's East series schedule is also in place, with four
points races on the slate. East series teams will join the Central
action at Black Mountain, New England Dragway, Mount Whittier and at
the Orleans County Fairgrounds.

Over 160 Drivers to Compete in 8th annual Atlantic Stock Car
Championships – $45,000 purse

October 8, 2008 – Shediac (N.B.) – Over 160 drivers and teams from
throughout Atlantic Canada, including a number of current and former
track and tour champions, will compete in this weekend's 8th annual
Pepsi Atlantic Stock Car Championships on October 11 & 12 at the
Centre for Speed (CFS) in nearby Grand Barachois. A total of over
$45,000 in payouts will be available for the teams in Pro Stock,
Sportsman, Streetstock, 4 cylinder TigerCat and Thundercat, Atlantic
Open Wheel (AOW) modifieds and Legend events during this upcoming
weekend.
Two feature events will highlight these Atlantic Stock Car
Championships with the Pepsi Pro Stock 150 as well as the Vance Hanes
Auto Parts Sportsman 100 both on Saturday, October 11th, starting at
1:00 p.m. On Sunday, October 12th, the CFS will present the Atlantic
Street Stock 75 as well as two 35-lap features for 4-cylinder TigerCat
(over 100 hp) and Thundercat (under 100 hp) racecars, a 35-lap finale
for the AOW Tour modifieds and a 30-lap feature for the Legend
racecars also starting at 1:00 p.m.
"We're really excited about this year's event", said Tim Wile, track
promoter for the Centre for Speed (CFS). "The weather is looking
great, the car counts are growing every day, and we've already got the
strongest overall field of stock cars that we've seen hit our facility
for this annual event."

The weekend will attract many top drivers from throughout New
Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island including most area
track and tour champions and a number of former track and tour
champions. The Pepsi Pro Stock 150 will feature this year's CARQUEST
Maritime Pro Stock (MPST) series champion, Wayne Smith of Timberlea,
Nova Scotia competing against the best Pro Stock racers from our
region such as former MPST champ and current PASS Tour competitor,
John Fleming of Halifax and local favorite Dave O'Blenis of Boundary
Creek.

Other top regional Pro Stock competitors expected on Saturday include
a number of teams from Nova Scotia including New Glasgow's George
Koszkulics, Fredericton-area drivers Brent Wiggins, Kevin Moore, Vinny
Bonnar and Paul Gahan along with PEI competitors Kent Livingston and
Kris Fournier. Over 32 Pro Stock drivers are expected to compete for
positions on the starting grid for the Pepsi Pro Stock 150 on
Saturday.

Also on Saturday, a total of over 40 of the Maritimes' top Sportsman
drivers are expected to battle for positions on the starting grid for
the Vance Hanes Auto Parts 100. Current and former track champions and
top competitors from most of the stock car tracks in New Brunswick and
Nova Scotia are expected to make the trek to Shediac for the 100 lap
feature. The event will include the return to competition of
three-time CFS Sportsman champion Laurie Cormier (Shediac) as well as
multi time New Brunswick track champs such as Claude Gaudet
(Barachois), Brian Gillespie (Nackawic), Mike Power Jr. (Salisbury),
Jim Duke (Miramichi), Ken MacKenzie (Salisbury), and Gary Hicks
(Moncton).

On Sunday, Oct. 12th, track champions from throughout the region and
other top drivers in the Streetstock and 4 cylinder divisions will
also compete in individual Atlantic Championship features – including
the Atlantic Streetstock 75 and 35-lap main events for the 4 cylinders
divisions. Furthermore, drivers from the Atlantic Open Wheel (AOW)
modified touring series will battle it out for their series
championship in a 35-lap main event along with competitors from the
Legends racecar series who will compete in a 30-lap feature.

"There are two things that make this weekend event unique," said track
promoter Wile. "Fans, drivers and crews get a chance to celebrate the
end of the racing season in friendly competition, without any
pressure, and it's also an opportunity to match skills with most of
the top teams from throughout the region - in every class with a
chance to be named the 'best of the best' in your division."

Friday afternoon and evening on October 10th will feature practices
for all divisions as well as a pit party.

Weekend passes for adults will be sold for $40 while a youth weekend
pass will go for $10. On Saturday October 11th, individual day passes
will be $28 for adults and $10 for youths while day passes for the
October 12th races will be $15 for adults and $5 for youths. Monday,
October 13th has been reserved as a rain date for either event.

The CENTRE for Speed is a 128-acre motor sports park including
Atlantic Canada's largest and fastest stock-car oval along with
several other racing facilities. The facility overlooks the
Northumberland Straight and is located 5 kms east of Shediac's Parlee
Beach in the village of Grand Barachois, New Brunswick.

American-Canadian Tour release: Sweet and Hamel Take ACT Top Rookie Honors

WATERBURY, VT – Two freshman Late Model stock car drivers have earned
2008 Rookie of the Year titles in
the premier touring divisions of the American-Canadian Tour, as Barre,
VT's Nick Sweet and Patrick Hamel of St-
Édouard-de-Lotbinière, QC earned their laurels on the ACT Late Model
Tour and the Série ACT-Castrol, respectively.
Sweet, 23, graduated to the ACT Late Model Tour from the NAPA
Tiger Sportsman division at Thunder Road in
his hometown of Barre, VT. After winning the Sportsman championship
in 2007, Sweet and his family team began
competing on the 12-race ACT Late Model Tour in the northeastern U.S.
and Canada.
Sweet experienced some growing pains in the first three events,
posting 30th-place finishes at Lee USA
(NH) Speedway and Thunder Road, and failing to qualify at Oxford
Plains (ME) Speedway, but began to his stride by
finishing tenth at New York's Airborne Speedway in the
STJAuto.com/Fortier's Community Car Home #88 Pontiac in
May. He followed that up in successive events with a sixth at Thunder
Road's Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic
and a fifth at Waterford (CT) Speedbowl, then earned top-tens at
Ontario's Kawartha Speedway, White Mountain
Motorsports Park in New Hampshire, Oxford Plains, and in the
Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road. Sweet's
second-place finish at Oxford's New England Dodge Dealers 150 in
September was the best result of his young career.
Overall, Sweet finished an impressive ninth in ACT Late Model
Tour championship standings and earned the
Rookie of the Year title over fellow Vermonter Tyler Cahoon of St.
Johnsbury by 38 points, 121-83. Jonathan Urlin
of London, ON finished third in rookie standings, followed by Ricky
Wolf, Jr. of Northwood, NH and Matt White of
Northfield, VT.
At only 19 years old, Hamel's performances were equally as
impressive on the Série ACT-Castrol. After
winning the 2007 Série Super Sportsman touring championship in Québec,
the teenager, father Michel, and their
closely knit team stepped up to the Série ACT-Castrol for the full
eight-race schedule. Instantly, success became
the norm.
In his debut performance, the "Canadian Cowboy" grabbed an
eighth-place showing at Autodrome St-Eustache
near Montréal, a flat, 4/10-mile oval. At the high-banked Autodrome
Chaudière 1/4-mile in Vallée-Jct., QC, Hamel
finished sixth and won the Kenyon Racing Products Hard Charger Award
for improving his position the most of any
driver during the race (18 positions), then continued to show his
versatility in the Hamel Construction, Inc. #51
Chevrolet by earning another sixth at Autodrome St-Félicien, a quirky
half-mile tri-oval in northern Québec. His
best finish of fourth came at Chaudière in August, followed by
back-to-back eighth-place finishes at the fast
Autodrome Montmagny 3/8-mile. Hamel also posted a tenth-place finish
in the Coors Light 200 "Showdown at
Chaudière," an invitational all-star race for the top ACT Late Model
Tour and Série ACT-Castrol drivers in
September. Sweet finished 18th after running in the top-five for most
of the race.
All told, Hamel finished seventh in the Série ACT-Castrol
championship standings. He outdistanced fellow
19 year-old Spencer MacPherson of Carleton Place, ON by 19 points,
97-78, to win the Rookie of the Year title.
Justin Holtom of Ottawa, ON and Jonathan Urlin rounded out the freshman field.
Hamel will be honored at the Série ACT-Castrol Banquet of
Champions in November, while Sweet will accept
his award at the ACT Banquet of Champions in January. Banquet dates
and details will be announced soon.

Naples ME (October 7, 2008) Richie Morse will attempt to wrap up
his first Pro All Stars Series (PASS) PLuffybilt Racing Tractors
Sportsman Series Championship on Saturday October 11th at Groveton
NH's Riverside Speedway . The Waterford Maine racer currently holds a
26 point edge in the standings over Steve Bennett, (276-250) after six
events of the seven race 2008 series. Terry Merrill trails the pair in
third at 222 with Shane Tatro fourth at 219. Dan McKeage rounds out
the top five with 199.

Merrill and McKeage account for two series wins a piece, but Morse
has recorded the most top fives of any Sportsman series competitor
(5) and he's never finished outside the top ten all season long.
That's the kind of consistency that earns championships, but Morse
will be looking for a race win Saturday to make his season complete.
Series regular Jonathan Ledger cut his racing teeth at Riverside
Speedway and the home town racer will be looking for his first series
win on his home turf.

The PASS Sportsman 75-lap Championship feature will share the card
with the wildest enduro of the season, the Frostbite 250 for stock
four cylinder and six cylinder cars and mini-trucks. The race carries
a guaranteed $8,250.00 purse with a whopping $5,000.00 to the survivor
who takes the checkered flag first. The final round of the speedway's
popular 4x4 tug-o-war series will complete the days' schedule.

The pit gates at Riverside open at 8:00 AM Saturday. PASS Sportsman
practice gets underway at 11:00 AM and racing goes green at 2:00 PM.

Lucas claims fifth PASS Mod win, edges Shaw for title at Wiscasset

Naples ME (October 5, 2008) The preliminaries were over and the stage
was set for an exciting PASS Mod Championship finale at Wiscasset
(ME) Raceway Saturday. Mark Lucas and Andy Shaw entered the Pro All
Stars Series Mod division feature tied atop the point standings, and
the pair waged a forty lap war for the win and the title. When the
checkers flew Lucas had scored his fifth win of the ten race 2008 PASS
Mod schedule to claim his second series championship. Shaw came up
just two points short in his bid for the championship, finishing
second in the race and in the standings; Troy Morse, Chubby Howe and
Glen Bradbury finished third through fifth.

Both Lucas and Shaw had to race from the back of the field, and Shaw
got to the front first. He came up to challenge early leader Troy
Morse and took over the race lead on lap sixteen. But by lap
twenty-two Lucas was second to Shaw and ready to challenge. Still,
Shaw looked like he had the edge, keeping the nine behind him on
several restarts until the black 66 suddenly shut down for an instant,
just long enough for Lucas to sneak by on the bottom for the race
lead.

Now it was Shaw's turn to give chase, and the pair left the pack
behind to decide the title. The rest of the field was racing like it
was the last feature of 2008 for the series, and the cautions flew hot
and heavy as the race drew to its conclusion. Shaw had three
opportunities to challenge Lucas, with a four to go restart plus two
green/white/checker attempts. But despite Shaw's best efforts, Lucas
kept the point and claimed the prize.

Bill Dixon, Ronald Gooden Jr., Tom Oliver,Sulo Burbank and Scott
McDaniels rounded out the top ten. Greg Ellis and Mark Lucas each won
heat races.

PASS North: Bates bags the Brawl, Clark claims third Championship

Naples ME – (October 5, 2008) PASS North sophomore Adam Bates raced
past Cassius Clark on lap 99 of Saturday nights Pro All Stars Series
(PASS) Ray Haskell Ford Fall Brawl 150 at Wiscasset Raceway to claim
his second PASS North super late model win of 2008.

Clark raced home second and Travis Benjamin was third, with DJ Shaw
fourth. Johnny Clark completed the top five, and that run coupled with
a tenth place finish for Ben Rowe earned Clark his third Pass North
super late model Championship.

The two title contenders entered the 150 lap feature tied for the
title, and at lap 100 the pair were nose to tail with Clark fifth and
Rowe sixth. But Rowe slipped high in the outside groove on a lap 115
restart and slid back through the field, ending his bid for a fifth
PASS title.

Meanwhile Bates was methodically working his way up from his twelfth
place spot on the starting grid. At the half-way mark he trailed race
leader Travis Benjamin, Cassius Clark and Travis Kittleson in fourth.
Bates turned on the afterburners once he saw the crossed flags,
picking off the front runners one at a time to claim a lead he would
never relinquish.

Bates had a "moment" with five laps to go, almost throwing away the
victory while working traffic in turn one. But the Warner New
Hampshire hot shoe did a masterful job of saving his race car and
motored on to the victory.

Bill Whorff, Derek Ramstrom, John Fleming, Scott Chubbuck, and Ben
Rowe came home fifth through tenth. Travis Benjamin, Corey Williams
and Johnny Clark each won qualifying races.

"Super Rookie" DJ Shaw is the 2008 PASS/ Northern Race Tire super late
model Rookie of the Year. Shaw scored two feature wins, five top fives
and nine top tens on his way to the title.

Although the Fall Brawl wrapped up the PASS North season, many teams
will be heading south of the Mason-Dixon to compete with their PASS
South counterparts.

Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway hosts the PASS South as well as the
fourth and final round of the PASS National Championship Series on
Saturday October 18th; Cassius Clark Leads John Stancill by 15 points
in the National standings. Then one week later it's the Mason – Dixon
500, the biggest short track doubleheader of the season at South
Boston (VA.) Speedway on October 25th with twin 250 lap features on
tap for the PASS Super Late Models and Late Model Stock Cars. That
race will decide the 2008 PASS South super late model champion.
