Robinson, McAlpine triumphant at Unity Raceway

Unity, ME – Rowland Robinson, Jr. of Steuben and Burnham's Carl
McAlpine drove to victory lane, topping the stock car racing card at
Unity Raceway Friday night.

Robinson bounced back from a late-race altercation while battling for
the lead on opening night to win the Late Model feature, while
McAlpine dominated the Wildcat division's special, 50-lap main event
on the racy, 1/3-mile oval.

Other feature winners at 'Maine's Toughest Racing oval included Kris
Watson, Steve Rackliff, Kyle Gallant, Lance Chapman, Mickey Landry,
Shelby Kimball and Gage Landry.

The Late Model winner, also known as 'JR Rockin' Robinson, rebounded
from a late-race crash that cost him a shot at victory in the opening
night 109-lap main event, and some issues that came up in post-race
inspection, to claim his first Unity Raceway Late Model win.

Robinson started from the pole but watched Joe Allard and Brad Bellows
drive by in the opening laps. Defending track champion Bellows made a
daring, three-wide move in lapped traffic to take the lead away from
Allard and set the pace for several laps before Robinson loosened him
up midway through the 30-lapper and drove underneath the reigning
Unity king for good.

Bellows, of China Village, maintained second position on the track
after yielding to Robinson but his apparent runner-up finish was
negated in post-race tech by a carburetor infraction. Opening night
winner Deane Smart crossed the line in third position, but like
Bellows he ran afoul of the technical inspectors after the race and
was disqualified for an excessive engine setback violation, as was
apparent fifth-place finisher Dylan Turner.

Glenburn's Joe Allard was second in the official order of finish for
the Late Models, with Mike Lynch of Winterport picking up the
third-place trophy. Frankie Moulton of Burnham and Matt Eaton of Deer
Isle rounded out the top five.

McAlpine absolutely dominated the 50-lap special for Wildcat division
competitors, lapping all but runner-up finisher, and opening night
winner, Dustin Hubbard of Unity in an extremely-clean main event.

Both Tim Hudson and Chet Hanscom were contenders for podium finishes
before troubles knocked them from the ranks of frontrunners in the
night's longest-distance race.

Bangor's Shawn Hamel II claimed third-place laurels in his first
appearance of the season at Unity, with Luke Rickards of Anson and
Burnham's Chris King filling out the top five.

Watson, of Hermon, took his second straight feature win in the Super
Street 20-lapper, grabbing the top spot from early pacesetter Donnie
York of Knox, who held on to second spot throughout the event, but
lost the runner-up finish in post-race inspection due to a shock
absorber violation. That handed the official second-place finish to
Steve Moulton of Glenburn, with third-place hardware collected by
Steve Rackliff of Starks, who prevailed in a racelng battle against
Orrington's John Kalel II. Hurricane Hal Stratton of Belgrade was the
fifth-place finisher.

Rackliff, doing double duty, cruised to victory in the Late Model Pro
4 feature race, capitalizing on problems suffered by early race leader
Jimmy Dennis of Benton, who was looking like the man to beat in the
race before sparks began to show below his machine, causing him to
drop back several positions in the final half of the event. China's
Gregg Cummings was a contender throughout the 20-lap feature, claiming
runner-up honors. Justin Drake of Burnham crossed the line in third
position, but didn't make it through post-race inspection after an
engine violation was detected. That moved Skowhegan's Brian Lancaster
into the show position after a nice drive, bouncing back from an early
spin to claim a trophy. Augusta's Norm Cummings ended up in fourth
spot, followed by Ben Nile of New Vinyard.

Veazie's Gallant led wire-to-wire in a non-stop, 15-lap Monsta Mini
feature race. Opening night winner and defending division champion
Mike Wilson of Chelsea chased Gallant throughout the race, but never
mounted a serious challenge for the victory. Paul Jason of Augusta
outran Clinton's Alicia Goodwin for the final trophy.

Chapman, of Benton, raced from the back of the pack to take the lead
away from Clinton's Merv Greene before the 20-lap Flyin' Four division
main event was halfway completed, then barely held off a hard-charging
Cody Sleeper to post his second straight victory. Sleeper, of Chelsea
came up about a foot short of victory under the checkered flag and
settled for runner-up honors, with Skowhegan's Mike Mason racing to a
hard-earned third-place finish. Justin Moore of Madison crossed the
finish line in fourth spot, with Vassalboro's John Fortin making a
last-lap move into fifth position.

Anson's Landry negotiated traffic flawlessly, driving from the back to
the front to score his second straight triumph in the enduro class.
Chris Burbelo of Frankfort picked up his second consecutive runner-up
trophy, with Herny Boudreau of Bristol nailing down a third-place
finish after leading much of the 15-lapper before Landry drove on by.

Shelby Kimball of Cornville raced to an impressive victory in Ladies
division competition. Kimball led early, gave the lead up for a few
laps to Mika Wilson of Chelsea, then made a slick move in lapped
traffic to take the lead back for good. Wilson claimed runner-up
honors, with opening night winner Molly Feeney of Hope charging from
the back of the starting field to end up in third position. Alicia
Goodwin of Clinton and Meaghan Allen of Winterport rounded out the top
five.

In a wild Teen Thunder event under a near-full moon, Gage Landry of
Sidney claimed a popular victory. Landry inherited the lead when
Clinton's Cole Robinson and the extremely-quick Brandon Greenleaf of
Searsport crashed in turn four, ending Greenleaf's impressive run.
Landry had things his way for the rest of the race, taking the
checkered flag ahead of Canaan's Robert Dyer and Matt Kimball of
Cornville, who overcame his fair share of adversity to pick up the
third-place trophy. Brooke Getchell of Pittsfield was fourth, followed
by Robinson.

Unity Raceway hosts a pair of events this weekend, with NELCAR Legends
and a burnout contest joining the weekly racing divisions on Friday
night. Sunday afternoon the Wildcat and Flyin' 4 divisions see action
on a Fernald Frenzy program with several novelty races and a

OXFORD, Maine - Mike Short dominated the first 100-lap race of 2009 as
convincingly as he aced the final long-distance test of 2008, cruising
to victory in the Sunoco Race Fuels 100 for Allen's Coffee Flavored
Brandy Strictly Stocks at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Short led the final 71 laps of the event, winning an eight-lap sprint
to the finish after the lone caution flag tightened the field. Short
won six races in '08, including the September New England Dodge
Dealers Little Guy 100. He is the fourth different Strictly feature
winner to launch the current campaign.
Former division champion Jim Duguay was unofficially second in his
first start of the season, with division point leader Zach Emerson
third and the final car on the lead lap. Jeff Merrill and Larry
Emerson rounded out the top five.
The post-race technical inspection was still in progress at press time.
In the co-main event, Travis Adams made a dramatic, three-wide charge
from fifth to first in the final 10 laps to capture his second Oxford
Networks Late Model win in the first three weeks.
Ben Ashline, who skipped his graduation ceremony at Gardiner Area High
School to race Saturday, held on for a career-best second after
yielding the lead to Adams with five laps remaining in the 40-lap
contest.
Don Wentworth, Shawn Martin and Travis Stearns completed the top five.
Adams plotted his winning move after following the side-by-side battle
for second between Wentworth and Stearns for more than 20 laps.
Justin Karkos survived a wild Allen's Mini encounter for his second
straight 30-lap victory. Darrell Moore led until surrendering the top
spot to Karkos on a restart with nine circuits left.
Moore sped to second, with Jake Burns inheriting third after a
multi-car crash and subsequent penalties shook up the order on the
final lap. Reigning division champion Ashley Marshall recovered from
two early spins to finish fourth ahead of Kevin Bishop.
David Childs held off his uncle Guy Childs to top a 26-car field in
the Chimney Tech Outlaw feature. Childs has finished no worse than
second in four starts this season.
Steve Brill took home the third-place trophy in front of Kevin
Lawrence and John Patria.
Dottie Patria prevailed in the closest finish of the night, pulling
even with Vanna Brackett in the final corner and winning the drag race
to the finish line to swipe the 20-lap Allen's Ladies scramble. Cathy
Manchester was in close proximity to finish third, with Deanna
Robertson fourth and rookie Tori Burgess fifth.
The Wicked Good Vintage Race Cars also made their annual appearance at
OPS, with Kenny Robinson of East Machias claiming the checkers.
Oxford's Acceleration Series next takes center stage Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Scarborough, Maine- Maine racing legend Mike Rowe used his long
distance race experience to full advantage Saturday night to win the
Coors Light 100 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. The story of the race
was the experienced Rowe versus the young charger D.J. Shaw for the
win. Dave Oliver and Mike Maietta Jr led the field to the green flag
with Maietta Jr taking the lead.

D.J. Shaw moved to second position on lap 5 and pole sitter Oliver was
riding in third. Oliver went to the outside lane and picked off Shaw
for second and then Maietta Jr on lap 21 to re-take the lead. As the
race hit the 25 lap mark, Shaw began to look to challenge Oliver for
the lead as they raced side by side for the next 5 laps. On lap 30
Shaw went back in front but behind him was a fast closing Mike Rowe
who had moved from his 12th starting position into the third spot.

Caution flags on lap 40 and then lap 45 kept the field tight with Shaw
in front and Rowe moving to second place on lap 50. For the next 24
laps Rowe applied pressure to Shaw looking inside and then outside as
the wily veteran was sizing up the situation to make his move, but
Shaw was not falling for any of it and held his line.

Rowe made his move on lap 74 as he went down the backstretch looking
to the outside of Shaw as they raced into turn 3. Shaw moved up just
a bit exiting turn 4 and Rowe cut a hard left and got inside of Shaw
as they hit the front straight. Rowe raced into turn 1 with the lead
and never looked back as he led the final 26 laps for the win over
Shaw in second and Oliver third. Dan McKeage and Bradley Babb were
fourth and fifth at the finish.

In Sport Series action Scott Dorr became the first repeat winner this
season as he won the 35 lap feature race. Dorr took the lead from
Marty Adams on lap 19 and sailed to the win. Adams finished second
with Don Morse, Nate Leavitt and Craig Smith the top finishers.

The Wildcat 30 lap feature race was a trip down easy street for Jesse
Tolman as he led all 30 laps to win the race. Gary Babineau made a
late race charge to the front but settled for second place with Lyman
McKeage third. Matt Hodgdon and Mike Ramsey were fourth and fifth at
the finish.

Ray Letellier won his first Road Runner feature race as his rookie
season is well underway. Letellier took the lead from Brian Graffam
on the 11th lap and held off Shawn Brackett for the win. Matt Dow was
third with Graffam fourth and David Turner fifth.

NAPLES ME (June 6) Andy Shaw drove from the back of the pack to the
front to capture his second Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Mod series win
of 2009 Friday night at Lee (NH) USA Speedway. Shaw battled visiting
North Carolina super late model star Jay Fogleman and Sulo Burbank for
the win in the first of a four race Twin State Series for the open
wheelers.

Shaw and his team were fortunate to be in the feature at all. The rear
end in their race car blew up in practice but they were able to borrow
another from a fellow competitor, swap them out, and run second in
their qualifying race. But the work wasn't over then; the team had
holed a radiator in the heat and had to make another hasty swap before
feature time. Shaw, Dave Weir and the entire 66 team proved that once
again, hard work and perseverance pay off at the race track.

Sulo Burbank had luck on his side as well. After his best PASS Mod
finish of the season in third, the team discovered a broken hub held
in place only by the wheel after giving the Lee USA concrete a tap
midway through the feature.

Unofficially, Shaw vaults from third to first in the PASS Mod points
standings after four races. Jerry Harrison held the top spot going
into the race but a hard trip into the turn one wall resulted in a
12th place finish and second place points man Scott Grant came home
seventh. The top three were only separated by three points prior to
the Lee USA event.

Another Mooney double highlights Week 2 of karting at Oxford Plains

OXFORD, Maine – Kyle Mooney was the model of perfection again Friday
night in the JARRacing Photography Go Kart Series at Oxford Plains
Speedway, sweeping his 10-lap heats and 20-lap feature races in both
the Box Stock and Purple Plate divisions.
Brandon Varney was the runner-up in both main events to Mooney, who
led a total of 29 laps and made each of his winning passes the hard
way, driving to the outside. Chase Staples was third in Box, with
Zachary Rich taking home the show trophy in Purple.
Familiar faces fared well in new surroundings in other action.
David Blackwell took advantage of Brandon Douglas' late misfortune to
win for the second time in as many starts since jumping to the
Unrestricted division.
Already a previous winner in two younger divisions at Oxford, Tommy
Stilphen aced his first test in the Gold Plate class for
12-to-15-year-olds.
Evan Armington, a two-time champion in Purple Plate, claimed the
checkered flag in only his second Blue Plate start.
Two-time defending Star Champ ki ng Stephen Beattie scored his first
triumph of the season.
Blackwell was pitted in a tense battle for second through fifth for
most of the Unrestricted finale. When early dominator Douglas coasted
across the line under no power with two laps remaining, Blackwell
steered through the resulting jumble and powered to victory.
Dan Pelletier Jr. followed him into the runner-up slot for the second
outing in a row. Josh Brown, who led the first four laps and was
second to Douglas for the duration, slipped back to third after the
leader's departure but held off Kyle Metivier for that position.
New blood infused the Gold Plate ranks in the second week, with
Stilphen, Tyler King and Garrett Leiter joining past Blue Plate
champion Troy Davis in making their first starts of the season.
That group dominated the night, with Davis edging King in the
qualifier before Stilphen scooted by King on lap 8 of the main.
Davis, Leiter and King diced it out furiously for the runner-up honor
before crossing the line in that order.
Beattie bolted past early leader Erwin Carey on lap 6 of the Star
Champ scramble, then withstood the challenge of fellow two-time
champion Mike Ricker for the victory. Carey was third.
Armington chased down Chris Staples Jr. and forged ahead on the
halfway lap of the Blue Plate tangle. Varney out-dueled Wade
Blanchette (third) and Staples (fourth) for his third runner-up trophy
of the night.
The JARRacing series cranks up again next Friday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m.
OPS continues its weekend Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with Sunoco Race Fuels
Night. Racing is on tap for six divisions, capped by a 100-lap feature
for the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Strictly Stocks.

OXFORD, Maine - The father-son combination of David and Josh Childs
combined for 18 feature wins in two different Oxford Plains Speedway
Acceleration Series divisions last season.
Now that the two are competing in the same class, the peer pressure
and the quest for bragging rights might make them even more dangerous.
After hearing the Chimney Tech Outlaw rookie Josh had won his 20-lap
event while waiting to take the track for his own race, David drove to
a convincing victory in his portion of the first Wednesday night
program of the season.
Reigning Outlaw champion Ron Abbott Jr. also accomplished what he was
unable to achieve in his title-winning season, leading every lap to
capture the checkered flag in the first of three features for that
division.
Zach Audet and Matt Dufault ruled the Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel
features. Vanna Brackett emerged from a highly competitive Allen's
Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies field to score a win.
Ross Spurling backed up his first career victory four nights earlier
with another triumph. Defending champion Jason Hannigan picked up
where he left off with a Goulet Home Inspections Renegade victory.
Abbott held off Jerry Freve, who was a car length back throughout
their 20-lap tangle.
"Zach and Larry Emerson helped me get here," Abbott said. "I kind of
dragged my butt until the last minute."
John Patria made a spirited charge on the outside throughout the event
but settled for third. Guy Childs threatened to make it a family sweep
but filed into fourth ahead of Kevin Lawrence.
By virtue of having no 2008 points in the division, Josh Childs
started last in his 16-car grid. He flew past more than half the field
over the first three laps, then calmly picked his way past Chris
Coolidge, Steve Brill and early dominator Gerry Richard to score his
second straight victory.
Childs, 18, also won in his most recent Saturday night start.
"Holy cow, that was a fun race," said Childs. "I can't even believe I
made it here. I didn't think I'd be able to get up front. The car was
pushing, and I had to use a little more brake than usual."
Richard, Brill, Coolidge and Bob Ferguson completed the top five.
David Childs bolted from 11th to first in under 10 laps and cruised to his win.
"They came down and told me my boy won," Childs said, "so I had to
drive my butt off."
Steve Moon had a mirror full of John Spencer Jr. throughout but held
on for second. Tyler Belanger and Jonathan Baldwin traded fourth
position five different times before Belanger finally claimed it, with
Baldwin a career-best fifth.
Audet had a shadow in Scott Farrington for the duration of the 20-lap
Rebel opener, but last year's four-time feature winner started off
2009 in a similar fashion with a narrow victory.
"He ran me really clean. I'm happy about that," Audet said of Farrington.
Troy Jordan wasted no time charging from 12th to third, but without
the help of a caution flag to slow the leaders, he only had time to
catch their rear bumper before the finish. Dustin Salley backed up
Saturday's first career victory in fourth, followed by Jamie Heath
after a late skirmish scattered the eight-car battle for fifth.
Dufault drew the outside of the front row for round two and kept the
pack at a safe distance to the checkers. Kyle Hewins and Jason Berry
applied early pressure, but their slight entanglement in a multi-car
incident gave Dufault slightly more breathing room.
"The car was right on tonight," said Dufault. "We made a bunch of
changes from Saturday, and it worked out pretty good."
Racing for the first time since the birth of his first child, Jamie
Leavitt avoided the mid-race mess to take second. Berry stayed the
course and took third. Hewins' early-season winning streak ended at
two with a fourth-place run, followed by Corey Beaulieu.
Spurling inherited some space after closest pursuers Ryan Farrar and
Kevin Oliver got tangled with a lapped truck. Opie Allard advanced to
second and supplied some heat, but it was Spurling scoring his second
straight set of checkers.
"It's hard to keep those Toyotas back there, but we're getting better
and better," Spurling said.
The Ladies swapped lanes and paint repeatedly, with six drivers having
a crack at the win in the closing laps. Until Brackett moved to the
front, that is, continuing the momentum she produced with her 10 wins
in '08.
Cathy Manchester made a late move to the inside and took second in
front of defending champion Dottie Patria. Deanna Robertson and Debbie
Marston completed the top five.
Hannigan led every lap of the 10-lap Renegade scramble, holding rookie
Bill Grover at a safe, four-car length distance. Gerard Cote was next
in line.
OPS roars to life again at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with Sunoco Race Fuels
Night. A 100-lap Strictly Stock feature headlines a five-division
card.

PASS Mods kick off Twin State Series at Lee USA Friday

Naples ME (June 2) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Mods will be
featured this Friday night at Lee (NH) USA Speedway , round one of the
Twin State PASS Modified Series that will see the fast economical
open wheelers at Lee USA on several occasions throughout the 2009
season.

The forty lap points paying event for the PASS Mods joins Lee USA's
exciting weekly racing card that includes the E-Keys 4-Cars Late
Models, Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, David's Race
Cars & Components Roadrunners and American Race Parts Iron-Man
racers.

Freeport Maine's Jerry Harrison holds a slim two point lead in the
PASS Mod series point standings over Scott Grant, 143 to 141 for
Grant. Center Conway NH's Andy Shaw trails Grant by a single point in
third. Shaw, Greg Ellis and Steve Bennett Jr. have each scored feature
wins in the first three events of 2009.

Admission is only $10.00 for adults . Children are encouraged to play
in the "Kid Zone" adjacent to the family seating section. Racing gets
